At Katharine Pooley, art is an integral part of the design process. We believe that the most compelling interiors are those that tell a story, reflecting the individuality of our clients through carefully curated collections, meaningful pieces and a considered approach to every detail.

Much like a work of art, a thoughtfully designed space should evoke emotion, spark curiosity and stand the test of time. Frieze and Art Month is always a wonderful reminder of the power of art to inspire, challenge and transform the way we see the world.

With its sculptural, angular legs this bespoke desk in-house we designed in-house, forms the centrepiece of this considered study. Drawing on the client’s heritage and cultural influences, we embraced a Japandi sensibility, balancing clean lines and natural materials.

Just out of sight are our favourite feature - the bespoke handles. handcrafted in collaboration with maker Paulo, Phoebe sketched the initial concept by hand before it was brought to life in solid cast brass, adding a discreet yet distinctive layer of craftsmanship.

A desk chair in soft Italian leather, chandelier and office accessories both compliment and complete the space.

One of the very chic guest bedrooms at Ashburton House.⁠

Burnt sienna tones underpin the scheme, accenting the ivory silk upholstered panelling and headboard in ch*****ne. I selected a mirror with slight antique detailing and bronze frame to open up the cosy space, amplifying the light from the sculptural lamp on the bedside table.⁠

The bedside table itself features rich dark timber and ivory lacquered drawer fronts, introducing contrast while maintaining the understated palette. This combination of materials continues through to the wardrobe, with bronze detailing and mirrored panels reflecting the staircase beyond, and connecting the bedroom to the wider architectural language of the house.⁠

A natural cotton-paper weave adds subtle texture to the bookshelves in the Drawing room at Olea. Pieces by artist sit alongside an antique bronze lamp by creating a considered interplay of finishes.

Softly layered cushions in and fabrics compliment the beautiful English oak, hand-stitched goatskin coffee table by Norwich-based workshop . It juxtapositions harmoniously with our welsh-stone side table featured in a previous post.

All grounded by a handwoven .6.9 rug and locally sourced Marés sandstone.

Deep navy velvet from is the grounding hue of this scheme, a formal living room design for a family home in Connecticut.

Richly linens and woven textures in warm tones layer across peachy stone tabletops and aged bronze hardware. Ocean-blue embroidered details on the armchair back’s, mirror the charming intricate detailing on throw cushions handcrafted with ’s ‘Braqueniè fabric.
