What makes a family room really work?

Unlike a more formal living room, a family space needs to work hard. It’s where everyone gathers, relaxes, plays, watches TV and, more often than not, leaves a few things behind.

The key is creating a space that feels comfortable and inviting, while still keeping everyday life under control. Think plenty of storage for all the things a family accumulates, space to display the pieces that make the room feel personal, and a colour palette that feels playful without being overwhelming. A well-designed TV or media unit can also bring everything together, giving the room a natural focal point.

Our bright and spacious lounge was designed with exactly this in mind. Flexible storage can be adapted to suit the way the room is being used. From home cinema and games room to home office or library. A space that can change with you, and with family life.

Is your spare room sitting empty?

Nearly two-thirds of us have no dedicated space at home for our hobbies, while just over a third struggle to store the equipment. Meanwhile, spare rooms stay shut up for weeks or months at a time.

For many of our clients, the ‘empty nest’ is a chance to do something in the home that isn't oriented around family life for the first time in years. Find out how in our blog: https://linktr.ee/nevillejohnsongroup

You only get one first impression, and in the home, it often starts in the hallway.

A staircase can have a surprising impact on how a home feels from the moment you walk through the door. For guests, it’s one of those details that can make an entrance feel special. And if you’re selling, it can help a home stand out from the very first viewing.

It doesn’t have to be about making a statement. Sometimes, it’s about getting the proportions, materials and details right, so the staircase feels like it naturally belongs in the home.

Why can't you relax in your own living room?

When every room is either for function or for a screen, there's nowhere left to switch off. Smartphones, smart home tech and hybrid working have blurred the lines between public demands and private downtime.

We've explained how to fix it in our latest blog. Read it here: https://linktr.ee/nevillejohnsongroup

Keeping shoes organised, accessible and neatly tucked away can be one of the trickier parts of a seasonal wardrobe.

That’s why our designers look closely at what you actually own when planning a bespoke fitted wardrobe or dressing room. We measure everything from shoes and handbags to long dresses and coats, creating storage that works around your collection rather than asking your belongings to fit the furniture.

From pull-out shelves and rotating racks to dedicated shoe compartments, there are plenty of ways to make every inch work harder. Here, illuminated shoe storage adds a lovely boutique feel while keeping everything easy to see and reach.

Asymmetrical glass panels bring a contemporary edge to a classic staircase.

At first glance, this painted glass staircase feels thoroughly modern, but look a little closer and its foundations are decidedly classic.

It’s the details that give it a more contemporary feel — from the soft painted finish to the contrast of the Natural Oak timber treads.

The real focal point is the Molto glass balustrade, with its clean graphic lines and seamless, inline glass panels adding just the right amount of visual interest.

A timeless design with a modern twist, and one that will continue to work beautifully for years to come.
