What can be said about ON Residence, the luxury hotel in Thessaloniki, Greece, that they don’t eloquently put themselves? “…High ceilings. Low light. A woman's scent dominates the lobby. Beyond materials and durability, height and shape play an important role in overall style. We want our customers to know there are a range of choices that will suit their own decor, or even spark their imagination.

The DUX aluminium legs are one of our most simple and elegant solutions. Satin finished in brushed aluminium, the legs can be paired with caster for an incredibly modern look.

We love Yutorie Atami, a dormitory concept in Shizuoka, Japan. Designed by Naoshi Kondo studio, the gasshukujo (dormitory in Japanese) is a renovation project. Kondo is owner, architect and interior designer, and the space embodies the creative attitude of Kondo, who is a multidisciplinary designer.

Kondo challenges the nature of restoration design, whereby you should leave ‘what was there’ in the best way. Instead, Kondo uses the base space as a structure, balancing it with a healthy dose of fresh design.

The original wooden building was built in the 1950s for Kondo’s grandfather-in-law. Abandoned for a decade, Kondo began revitalising the house in 2021.

Any other dormitory of this kind might be designed around utilitarian principles, but Yutorie’s guest rooms are semi-luxurious. Gold plated interior details belie the expectations set by the exterior.

Following our successful show at Milan Design Week in June, we’re looking forward to showcasing the best of DUXIANA sustainability and design at Design Helsinki. The show will feature the leading brands in interior design in a series of showroom events around the vibrant and quirky city.

Running for two days on the 24th - 25th August, the DUXIANA showroom will allow visitors to experience DUX beds alongside iconic DUX furniture classics as Jetson, Karin and Pernilla, designed by Bruno Mathsson.

Recently revealed by Danish architecture studio BIG, and designed in collaboration with Swedish ornithologist Ulf Öhman, the Biosphere treehouse at the Treehotel in Sweden is a hotel room wrapped in birdhouses.

BIG founder Bjarke Ingels was inspired during a stay at the hotel. "I got to spend a few days and nights in some of the Treehotel rooms right before the pandemic, and left with a sense of rejuvenation from complete immersion into nature, I couldn't help wondering if there was a way to take the immersion one step further – and almost instantly the idea of inviting not only the human visitors but also the resident bird and bat population to cohabit a spherical swarm of nests came to life."

The room, a large glazed cube, is suspended between two trees. 350 birdhouses of different sizes are then attached to a metal grid around the room, to ultimately give the space a spherical form. Birds and nature can be observed from within the room, through its large double height windows. The interior is almost entirely black, and features such as lights continue the birdhouse theme.

Sleep is a fundamental part of finding time to relax. Sleep gives our bodies the time to repair and our minds the time to rest. We know a thing or two about sleep, so this National Relaxation Day we go back to the US, to hear from Ed Curry, from DUXIANA North America. ‘The Glasshouse’ is a sculptural and kinetic greenhouse, created by Thomas Heatherwick’s studio, on the historic Woolbeding Estate, West Sussex. The conservatory has a pyramidal 10-sided structure that opens out like a crown to reveal a variety of subtropical trees and shrubs.

Built for heritage charity National Trust as a focal point for the Silk Route Garden, a new outdoor space that dates back to the 18th century. "This is a place and a project that literally unfolds," said the studio's founder Thomas Heatherwick. "You step through this bewitchingly beautiful garden and discover an object that starts like a jewel and ends like a crown, as the Glasshouse slowly unfurls."

The Silk Route Garden is an ancient network of trading routes between Europe and Asia. Plant species introduced to Britain via the route fill the structure, including a rare Aralia Vietnamensis tree and a mix of ferns, umbrella trees, magnolias and bananas.
