Our supporters are the most creative bunch of people and we are constantly amazed at ways they find to get the message out there about Developmental Langauge Disorder. Example: notice board on the London Underground!

A common misconception is that the symbols we might use on a visual timetable are called PECS, and that anything we do with them is PECS.

PECS stands for Picture Exchange Communication System. It is a system that lets children communicate with us. It may well use the same symbols as a visual timetable, but it has a different purpose. The symbols themselves are not PECS, it is the method of using them that is PECS.

This matters because using this terminology can create confusion around the purpose of a child's timetable. Timetables tell children things about their day. It's important we (and they) are clear on this and use it consistently in that way so children know where they stand.

It's important we address children's ability to express themselves, your Speech Therapist can help you develop both timetables for understanding, and systems that let children tell us things.

During lockdown we have been offering teletherapy to some of our current clients. We are pleased to share that after positive feedback we are now able to offer teletherapy as an ongoing therapy option. This is common place in America and gives us, as therapists, even more flexibility in helping achieve a child’s potential. We also have begun to book in clients face to face again.... they say you never stop learning and we have certainly tried to embrace that - time to share with our clients how we can embrace the change!
