Sustainable furniture is easier to check than it sounds.

Look for FSC-certified timber and board.

Ask whether the product can be taken apart at end of life, so metal, board and plastics can be recycled separately.

Ask how much packaging arrives on site, and where it goes afterwards.

Not every breakout seat is for a conversation.

Gaber's Nalì, designed by Dsignio, has an elongated seat: room for a laptop with legs raised, or ten minutes away from the desk.

Choose a base with four painted metal legs or four solid oak spokes, then a fabric or leather cover.

No bad seats at this table.

We've just installed a Ws.D Nexis table with a barrel-shaped top: wider at the centre, narrower at the ends, so everyone sits in better sightlines of each other.

Power modules are built into the top, so power is within reach of every seat. Upholstered seating keeps longer meetings comfortable.

Set in threes, on purpose.

These curved desks angle each person slightly towards the other two, so a quick question happens across the desk, not over a partition.

Everyone keeps a full worksurface of their own. Clusters of three also break a long open floor into smaller team zones without extra screens.

Absorb. Block. Cover. 🔇

Three ways to control sound on an open-plan floor:

Absorb it with soft surfaces: wall and ceiling panels, upholstered seating, rugs.

Block it with height: screens, high-back sofas and booths between noisy and quiet zones.

Cover it with steady background sound, so conversations carry less far.

A conference table that changes when the room does.

MDD's Echo is modular. Choose the depth (1000 to 1600mm) and the shape (rectangular or barrel with rounded edges), then extend it as the room's use changes.

Standard lengths are 2400 and 3600mm, in melamine or veneer, with oak, walnut and plain colour finishes. Wood-based materials come from FSC-certified producers.

It works for a boardroom, a collaboration area or a classroom.

Four settings, two minutes, and a task chair that fits the person sitting in it.

Seat height: feet flat on the floor, thighs roughly level.

Seat depth: a small gap between the seat edge and the back of the knee.

Armrests: low enough that shoulders stay relaxed.

Lumbar: support sitting in the curve of the lower back.
