Last week we attended the ABLearns session hosted by Ebony and Co in Mayfair, focused on bespoke wooden flooring.

It was a very valuable session, especially from a technical perspective. The discussion covered the full lifecycle of wooden flooring – from timber selection, cutting methods and drying processes, through finishing and treatment, all the way to final installation.

One of the most fascinating elements was seeing a piece of wood estimated to be around 4,000 years old – a powerful reminder of how timeless and durable natural materials can be when properly understood and processed.

For me personally, it was also a great reminder of knowledge from my university studies in mechanical wood processing. It’s always interesting to reconnect theory with real-world, high-end applications.

We also had a great conversation with Alice di Salvo, whose deep expertise in wood technology and flooring systems really stood out.

We visited our client’s 13th-floor apartment for a detailed site survey. In addition to taking all the necessary measurements, we carefully assessed the staircase, including every level and landing along the way.
Particular attention was given to differences in ceiling heights between the ground floor and first floor, as these can sometimes create challenges when maneuvering larger furniture pieces. These small variations can make a big difference when it comes to access.
The measurements taken were for a built-in sliding door wardrobe and a sofa. Since the lift is too small to accommodate these items, everything will need to be transported via the staircase.
This thorough approach is part of our standard procedure during site surveys, ensuring that installation day runs as smoothly as possible.
