Forks and stands in Cherry and Oak headed out to .mcr
Thanks to and her new endeavour .uk which is helping connect makers with chefs to pair the best of craft with the best of food.
Hand carved cherry forks which are then oxidized using iron acetate and a tanning solution, lathe turned oak plinths which are scorched and oxidized to add texture and depth of colour. A really fun pairing that will be part of new tasting menu. Yum!

Tried something new today, I hand sharpened my planer/thick esser blades. WOW! What a smooth finish they're leaving now. 🪒🪵.
For the technical nerds out there, I used 320 grit sandpaper and then 1000 grit with a secondary bevel to make it easier to get super sharp, relatively quick.
10/10 would do again! I'm interested to see how long it will last.

Large cutting board in the works for a customer. Letting the wood speak on this one 🪵🔊

A set of plates that went out this week.
Did you know the colour in this Oak is caused by the Beefsteak fungus? It attacks the tree and has acids that react to cause this amazing colouring! It also changes how the wood works with tools, making it waxier feeling under the tools.

What are you up to this weekend? If you want to stretch your creative wings in 2026, you could do worse than getting signed up for Chorlton Arts Festival. Get going… there’s only just over a week to get involved.
Get along to http://www.chorltonarts.org before next Sunday evening.
(Note: we don’t actually have a skating category, but if you’re into drawing, painting, singing, playing, dancing, writing, making, crafting, acting or other creative pursuits, and you’re based in or around M21, this is the festival for you!)

I'm going to leave my (web)Shop open until tomorrow eve, so there's time to order a little something. Plus My name is Nick and I have a beard, so it's kind of like Santa has sent you a present in the mail.
Go on, treat yourself. While I can't offer free postage, I'm throwing in a hand printed lino cut card and sweets into every package that goes out.
Thanks so much for the support! I rarely do shop updates as they aren't always successful, but this one's been a goodie. 🎄✌🏼🙏🏼
