Did you know that around 16 million of the 30 million pumpkins bought each year are never eaten? That's the equivalent of approximately 95 million meals being wasted!

This Halloween, save money, reduce food waste and feed your family by making the most of your pumpkin. There are plenty of delicious ways to enjoy every part of your pumpkin before recycling what's left.

Our friends at Hubbub have created a fantastic recipe book packed with tasty ideas for you and your family to try:

Halloween waste doesn't stop at pumpkins! Many other items created during the spooky season can also be recycled, including:

🔋 Household batteries
🍬 Plastic sweet tubs
✨ Foil sweet wrappers
🎃 Broken electrical Halloween decorations
Most importantly, don't forget to recycle your pumpkin shell! Once you've enjoyed eating your pumpkin, you can recycle the remaining shell by:
✅ Breaking it up and placing it in your food waste bin
✅ Placing it in your garden waste recycling sack
✅ Taking it to your local Recycling Centre

⚠️ Please remember to remove any candles, tea lights, batteries or decorations before recycling your pumpkin.

🚫Never leave pumpkins in local woods or parks. Pumpkins can make wildlife ill, leading to dehydration and the spread of disease 🙁

💚🫶🏽♻️Let's work together to prevent waste, make the most of our food, and recycle responsibly this Halloween.

We are currently dealing with an issue at St Tydfil’s Court, Caedraw. During the early hours of this morning high winds caused a section of external cladding to become detached from the side of the building. Our colleagues are on site co-ordinating the immediate response, making the area safe and managing the risk of further cladding becoming detached. Our intention is to remove the existing external cladding as quickly and safely as possible.

Please be assured that we will continue to monitor and manage the situation closely to ensure everyone’s safety.

Don't Pay to Claim!

Did you know you should never have to pay someone to help you claim benefits?

Many benefits can be claimed directly through official government services at no cost. If you need support with an application, there are also trusted organisations that can offer free advice and guidance.

At Merthyr Valleys Homes, our Money Advice Team is here to help. Whether you're applying for benefits for the first time, or you're unsure what you may be entitled to, the team can provide advice to support you through the process.

Before paying anyone to make a claim on your behalf, check whether free help is available.

✅ Get information from official sources
✅ Seek advice from trusted organisations
✅ Be cautious of anyone asking for payment to help you claim benefits

If you're unsure where to turn, contact our Money Advice Team -
10am - 2pm every Tuesday at Calon Las Community Hub
or every Wednesday all day at our main office - Ty Brychan, on Lansbury Road, Gellideg.
