Good afternoon
I hope all is well and no one is having any issues with their respective Caravans or Motorhomes 🤔 You know where we are if you need us 😉
I just wanted to bring this to your attention.
During a Caravan Service there is special attention paid to the age and condition of your tyres. While they usually have plenty of tread depth on them, they can and do degrade on the outer or inner walls and often between the treads. The 5year (never let them go beyond 7yr) guidance stated on your Service paperwork is to allow for the “unseen” damage that general weathering alone can do, but incorrect tyre pressure can make worse. The tyre age is on the side wall, sometimes it’s the inner wall so some crawling on your belly is required to see it and is usually just after the letters DOT. It will be there as 4 numbers (eg (4223) this is week -42 and the year 2023 when the tyre was manufactured. I won’t dwell on the potential consequences of a blow out and I am aware a new tyre can have a puncture too ! If you do nothing else after the winter storage at least check the tyres 😉
Here is what a recent pair of what looked like perfectly good tyres when they set off, very quickly became 😳!!! One shows the wires sticking out the side of the rubber, the other the distorted tread area (sort of rounded rather than flat across the treads)very lucky they were 🍀
Stay safe
Thank you for your continuing support
