The first turning weekend of the year. Four fantastic students and the maple stools that they made. Great fun. And many thanks to Darcie from Lannan Bakery for the delicious cookies to keep us going. 😋

It’s been a few years since I last made a chair. Here’s a mock-up from the turn of the year that I have used to test the seat and back angles so that it’s nice and comfy. The next step was to make a full production spec model in hardwood (beech) and now that that’s done I’ll be making the final customer versions in oak next week.

Merry Christmas. A few new species for my Christmas tree collection and some new friends. (Maple, holly+walnut and laburnum trees and maple and walnut penguins.)

Thank you to all my 2025 customers, and wishing everyone a Happy New Year when it comes.

I'm somewhat amazed (and delighted) to tell you that my creepies are now available from The Perthshire Gallery in Pitlochry. They have six for sale this winter - including this most recently completed one in Scottish olive ash and elm. Pop along to see the creepies in the flesh - as well as lots of stunning works by many other artists in a wide range of styles and materials.

More curves to complement the earlier post of curves. Note that I don’t tease you just for the fun of it - I have a policy that I only post completed pieces after they have been delivered to the client. 🤩

This is not another creepie! I've had a piece of olive ash lying around for a few years which had some amazing grain patterns with quilting and ripples. I've even moved workshop with this piece of wood. Normally it would be destined for the top of a creepie but it had a long twisting split in the middle - and the pieces either side of the split would be too short to make a creepie. Anyway, it was quite long, and for a while I have been wondering whether my creepie design would translate into something larger. And it does! This is the result - a bench creepie made from olive ash with beech edging. This would be a cosy two seater bench: length 91 cm, height 42 cm, depth 34 cm. The last picture shows it's relative size to a normal creepie. I don't normally make speculative pieces - so this one is available for sale now. Please get in touch if you are interested.

Just some nice curves from a current build which will be finished next week.

A creepie commissioned as a wedding present. Made from Scottish olive ash and elm showing classic ripples and flames and with the wedding date hand-carved into the side skirt.

Inversion conditions in Glen Dessary whilst up Sgurr na Ciche. (Apologies for those of you here for furniture, this was too good to not share.)
