Antique coal box, also commonly known as a purdonium or coal scuttle.
These cabinets were popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras (roughly late 1800s to early 1900s). They were designed to sit by the fireplace and store coal in a more decorative way than a standard bucket. The front features a hinged fall-front door all in good condition for age
