Preparing for birth is about more than ticking boxes; how you feel matters.

Everything from the questions, to the light bulb moments rely on you feeling relaxed; the more open, comfortable and safe you feel, the more you can dig deep and find the confidence and sense of control that'll make this adventure smoother.

That's why I do antenatal differently.

Only 1:1 with you guys, in your home.
Sessions guided by you & your needs.
Support that extends beyond our time together.

Experience has taught me that this is where the magic happens.
That's why every antenatal family gets it, whether you book a single session or a full six session course.

Sounds good right.
DM me with your due date and what you're most interested in, and we'll get started!

⭐ The Nest: from August 2023 to now ⭐

The credit for the name goes to my friend.

I told her I wanted to create a postpartum group that felt less like an activity and more like coming home. She said it sounded like a safe place, where after all those months of preparation, you can finally settle.

So 'The Nest' was born.
And she couldn't have been more spot on.

What started as a fortnightly pop-up has become a weekly institution, a place where Cornwall's new mums tenatively venture across the threshold into a community that's happy to hold them, have them and ride the peaks and troughs of the craziness of postpartum.

The Nest isn't a baby group.
It is, as it has always been, a space for you.
The new mum who needs and deserves time, space and support to breathe.
With caffeine and flapjacks thrown in for funzies.

Sound good? Join us.

The buzz of your chatter, your curious questions, the friendships that form: that’s what makes ‘The Nest’ magic.

When I started ‘The Nest’, I worried that there wouldn’t be enough for you to do.
I panicked about prompting your conversations, to help you find common ground.
But over the years, here’s what I’ve learnt.

I was wrong.
Being a new parent is common ground enough.
The fact that you’re here, means you want to talk.
You guys make your own magic.

Me? Well I make the introductions, set the vibe, make the coffee and the flapjacks and move around the mat giving the support, the signposts and the sensitive ear to hear your stories as you need them.

And then 90 minutes later, we all leave as better, happier and lighter people.
With babies who have played, slept, fed and socialised as humans were always meant to.

Mission complete.

Want to join us?

We welcome the grown-ups of babies from birth to just-about-crawling to our Thursday sessions (1pm) at the Family Space; if that’s you, we’d love to meet you both.

Very, very few. BUT that's exactly why I'm here.

My clients aren't burying their heads in the sand and hoping it'll all be okay; they come to me because they KNOW that birth is an unpredictable beast.

Their birth center dream could end up in theatre.
A carefully planned caesarean could be a BBA homebirth.
The VBAC may not happen.
Induction may well end up appealing to them.

And they're open to change.
They have the goal and the aspiration, but it's not definitive for them.

But what they're ABSOLUTELY NOT open to is losing control, to feeling chaotic and pressured, or overwhelmed by process.

That's why they get me on board.

When things are going well, I'm here to celebrate you and remind you how incredible you are.

When things go wonky, I'm here to steady you, ground you in the moment and bring you back to logical, rational decisions that put you first.

Book an antenatal course?
You get that from the day we start, until the day you go into labour.

Book me as your doula?
You get that from the day we sign the contract, until your baby is one month old. Every moment of labour and birth included.

Yep, it's a weird old job that I do.
But it makes the biggest difference.
And that's why I do it.

Yes, you can plan too much for birth and I see it all the time, particularly in first-timers.

The need to know everything.
The need to be one step ahead.
The need to be unshockable.

If this is you, please know this is said with love. I too am a control freak and love to be at the helm of any ship.

But birth is not a ship you can control.
Especially if you're the one doing it.
And there is a point where information becomes damaging.

When you feel responsible for seeking and carrying the knowledge, you become in-charge. And when you do that, stress automatically comes into the equation.

No one in charge can ever relax.
You have to be prepared to act, right?

But birth NEEDS you to relax.
It needs you to surrender and mould to the experience around you.
You have to be able to let go of your awareness and live it.

You can't do that if you're wrestling with facts and decisions.
Whatever antenatal or birth prep you do needs to prepare to do just that; to build your knowledge base but also to develop a sense of confidence, calm and surrender that allows you to ride the waves as you need to.

This balance is a delicate one.
That's why I do antenatal 1:1.
Just me and you two.

I give you the information you need, and the space and time to explore it, and the support to safely surrender to the reality of birth.

So yes, I do antenatal differently. Curious?

Listen to that: the chat at 'The Nest' isn't always what you'd expect.

Yes, we talk about the challenges of sleep, feeding, relationships and 'balance', but not all the time.

We chat about whatever's on your mind, and today - as well as the baby life stuff - we also dipped into:

- panda pops and turkey twizzlers (ah, the glory days)
- winter Vs summer wardrobes
- dogs with dementia
- wind warnings
- car journey playlists
- birth stories
- being late to everything
- our in-laws

This is what creates 'The Nest's magic: I don't plan it, you don't plan it, we just talk about whatever happens to be on your mind.

As you have coffee.
As you eat homemade flapjacks.
As you cuddle, feed or play with your babies.

No, its not complicated or jazzy. But oh my days does it make everything feel so much better.

Fancy joining us?

'The Nest' welcomes the parents of babies from birth up to just-about-crawling to our Thursday sessions at The Family Space in Threemilestone.

Spaces are limited and booking is essential. Nab your space for November here: www.borntobirthcornwall.co.uk/the-nest

Everyone wants the waterbirth.
It looks relaxing, so how could it not be?

Because of the length of your labour.
Because of your tolerance for pain.
Because of your need for information.

As a doula, I am ALL in favour of water in labour, but - like everything - it's not for everyone.

Which is why we need to move away from idea that a good birth is one that happens in water.

A good birth will always be one that meets your needs & keeps you feeling safe and comfortable, both in the short and long term.

For some that will be water.
For others it will not.

If you're preparing for birth, figuring out what your needs are HAS to be your starting point. And as a doula, that's exactly what I help you to discover.

Follow along for more ♥️

‘The Nest’ is the community that every new parent deserves.

As a doula, I support new families to find their feet every single day and I know what makes a difference. More often than not, it’s nothing jazzy or spectacular.

In fact the things that make a difference are quite simple.

Calm vibes.
Welcoming faces.
Reliable & sensitive support.
Zero pressure.

That’s exactly what ‘The Nest’ is here to give.
And that’s exactly why people come back week after week.
