It is nearly time for our team to start their over 350km cycle challenge from Vietnam to Cambodia! Up next on 'Meet the Team' we have Neil.

"My name is Neil. I've supported Halton Haven Hospice for many, many years. Although I've never personally needed to use their services, I've known many friends who have, and I've seen just how much this incredible local charity means to people and their families during some of the most difficult times in their lives. I firmly believe that charity begins at home, and what better cause to support than one that does so much for our own community?

Last year, I took on the Arctic Challenge, which was an amazing achievement. This year, I fancied something a little warmer! 🌞 At the end of October, I'll be heading to Vietnam to take on an incredible cycling challenge through to Cambodia, covering around 400km along the way.

I'm aiming to raise £4,000 to help support Halton Haven Hospice and the vital work they do for local people and their families. Every donation, no matter how big or small, is hugely appreciated and will help make a difference.

If you're able to support me, please follow the link below to my JustGiving page. And if you can't donate, a share would mean just as much. 🙏 Please help me support this amazing local charity. Together, we can make a difference.❤️ Donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/neil-howard-gpe"

Thank you Neil for joining our challenge team once again and making a huge difference, good luck on the ride!

Meet the team for our over 350km Vietnam to Cambodia cycle challenge - up next is Mel.

"I am a newly retired GP and I have always been passionately committed to providing end-of-life care and had the privilege to work in Velindre hospital and Holme Towers when a junior doctor under the tutelage of the inspirational Dame Ilora Finlay . Trying to replicate that level of care in our rural area for patients at home has been both challenging and rewarding and the support from our local hospice ( an hour away) was vital.

Hence why I was more than happy to join my long time ( much much fitter! ) friends, to bike through Vietnam and Cambodia and at same time support Halton Haven Hospice . There is only one chance to get it right at the end of someone’s life and the care given by hospices across the country set the standard and ensure that aspiration is achieved every day in homes and hospices across the UK.

I’m not as fit as I hoped to be but never am - but better than if I had never trained at all! Hopefully I won’t hold up the team but then again someone has to be last /fall off/ get stuck in a ditch ……right?"

Thank you Mel for joining our cycle challenge team! We hope you avoid the ditches and have a great time supporting the Hospice! 💜

Meet the team - Vietnam to Cambodia, 350km cycle challenge raising vital funds for Halton Haven Hospice. Up next we have Jayne!

"Two years ago my family were devastated by the loss of our beloved Ste, our world was broken and we were totally at a loss of how we would carry on, the Haven provided the best care for both Ste and ourselves during the worst times.

I have always used exercise and fitness as a method of managing stress and so the only way I felt able to cope with life without Ste was to throw myself into raising funds for the Haven as a way for our family to show our appreciation for the love and care they showed to us!

Friends and family over the last two years have completed many challenges, our best friend Mark Gumbs cycled from lands end to John o groats, friends completed along with myself 40 miles bike challenges, my two son in laws ran the London Marathon along with a family friend, I have ran the great North Run, walked 50 miles of the Salt Path and ran the Liverpool half Marathon earlier this year with my best friend and after some encouragement signed up for this amazing challenge of cycling Vietnam to Cambodia, which I am taking on along with my good friend Oonagh.

My training plan has been made up of long bike rides, cycling in my Gym, walking / padel / Pilates, PT and running. As we come to the last 7 weeks I aim to up my training mileage on the bike, and get the best set of padded shorts available!

I look forward to the cycle challenge and the adventure that we are about to take, and will appreciate every last moment and every last mile as I think of every last person that has supported me along the journey to get to where I am today. I lost my biggest cheerleader two years ago but I know that I will always have Ste's voice in my ear and his love in my heart encouraging to keep going every mile in whatever I do, but even more so as I complete this epic 200 mile journey of discovery! Every pound raised helps another family just like ours to enjoy the comfort and support that we received during our darkest days ❤️"

Thank you so much to Jayne, her family, and friends for all the incredible support they have shown the Haven. We are so grateful to have you part of our Vietnam To Cambodia team! 💜

Meet the team - Vietnam to Cambodia, 350km cycle challenge raising vital funds for Halton Haven Hospice. Up next we have Duncan!

"I’m Duncan, and I’m taking on a pretty big challenge this October and November alongside my wife, Karen. We're doing a 350km bike ride through Vietnam and Cambodia to raise money for Halton Haven Hospice.

Karen works in fundraising at Halton Haven Hospice and I've worked at two other hospices during my career, so we both know just how important every pound raised is. The care Halton Haven provides to local people and their families is incredible, but it relies heavily on fundraising and the generosity of the local community to keep that care going.

I’m actually a cyclist, so at least I have that going for me. I regularly get out on the bike and 40+ mile rides aren’t unusual. But cycling around Cheshire is one thing, cycling from Vietnam to Cambodia, day after day, in the heat and humidity, is quite another!

Karen, on the other hand, is definitely NOT a cyclist. So naturally, when the opportunity came along, she thought, “Yes, that sounds like a sensible thing to do.”

We're riding from 28th October to 7th November, across two countries and hopefully discovering some amazing places along the way. It’s going to be tough, but it’s also going to be an incredible adventure and having Karen alongside me makes it even more special.

Most importantly, we’re doing it to raise as much money as we can for Halton Haven Hospice. Every donation will help the hospice continue providing care, comfort and support to local people, their families and loved ones when they need it most. So if you’d like to sponsor us, you’ll be helping us pedal through those miles for a great cause! Thank you."

Thank you so much Duncan for joining the team and helping to add life to days! 💜

At the end of October, a team will be embarking on an over 350km cycle challenge from Vietnam to Cambodia raising vital funds for Halton Haven Hospice. Up next on our 'Meet the Team' is Oonagh.

"My name is Oonagh. I’m a nurse working in paediatrics for pretty much all my career. Mostly in paediatric oncology. I had the pleasure of meeting Jayne (another cyclist on the challenge) 3 years ago through unusual circumstances and we stayed in touch. It’s a long story but I’m doing the trip to support Jayne in remembering her lovely husband."

Thank you so much Oonagh for joining our team. We are so grateful that you are choosing to support your friend in memory of her husband and we hope you both enjoy the challenge!
