Potbury's Funeral Service Potburys Funeral Service, Sidmouth, East Devon Grassby & Sons also run Hansfords Funeral Service of Beer and Seaton and Norton Memorials in Axminster.

The business was originally part of Potburys Furniture Shop and Auction rooms in Sidmouth owned by the Lee family. In 1992 the funeral business was acquired by Grassby & Sons, an independent family run funeral business with their main office in Dorchester, Dorset. In 2015 Potburys acquired new premises at 111 High St in Sidmouth. These premises have been sensitively renovated to incorporate new offices, arrangement rooms and a chapel of rest facility. The business is able to provide a very high standard of service to the Sidmouth and East Devon community, with Funeral Directors Corinne Sycamore and Colin Comber responsible for arranging and conducting all local funerals. Grassby & Sons have four other branches in Dorset which are located in Weymouth, Wyke Regis, Blandford Forum and Sturminster Newton. All branches are supported by the masonry works at Grassby Memorials located just outside Dorchester in the village of Grimstone which has been operating since 1861. Potburys Funeral Service are members of NAFD (National Association of Funeral Directors) and SAIF (National Society of Allied Independent Funeral Directors).

We had the privilege of sharing our very old Sidmouth Cemetery Map with the Cherishing Sidmouth Cemetery Volunteers; Amanda O’Carroll, Liz Dicker and Tracey Cann. Along with the map showing grave numbers we also had our extensive funeral records, dating back to the late 1800’s, to cross check against, helping locate long lost graves.
If you are researching a family plot in the old section of the Cemetery and need some help, get in touch with us, we may just be able to help you with some information.
The map and some of the records will be on display over Folk week in our front window.

Some things never change—and we believe compassionate care should be one of them.

For generations, Potburys Funeral Service has been honoured to support families in Sidmouth and the surrounding communities during life's most difficult moments. We know that every farewell is unique, which is why we take the time to listen, understand, and provide truly personal care.

Many of the families who come to us do so through personal recommendation or because we've cared for their loved ones over the years. That trust is something we never take for granted.

To everyone who has supported Potburys, whether recently or across generations, thank you. It is a privilege to be there for you, offering guidance, compassion, and dignity when it matters most.

💙 Here for our community. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

“Memories Stay Close”

A gentle word, a loving smile,
A treasured memory that lasts a while.
The people we love may leave our sight,
But their warmth remains, a guiding light.

Through stories shared and moments recalled,
Their life lives on, remembered by all.
For every life leaves a special trace,
A lasting gift no time can erase.

At Potbury's Funeral Service , Sidmouth, we understand the importance of honouring every unique life with care, dignity and compassion.

What is a special memory of a loved one that you will always treasure? We would love to hear your stories.

We were honoured to be invited to spend an evening with Bishop Mike at the Bishops Palace, Exeter Cathedral, alongside fellow funeral directors from across the region.

The evening provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the changing face of funerals, how we can continue to support families with compassion and care, and the importance of ensuring people understand all the options available to them when planning a meaningful farewell.

We are grateful to Bishop Mike, Archdeacon Andrew and everyone at Exeter Cathedral for hosting such a thoughtful and engaging discussion.
