The brief for this project was to create a timeless shaker kitchen that celebrated the character of the original cottage while embracing the light and space offered by the new oak-frame extension.

The result is a calm, beautifully balanced interior where made-to-measure cabinetry sits effortlessly alongside the exposed oak beams, reclaimed brickwork and generous glazing.

In July 1978, our founder, David Bodsworth, was working as a trained cabinet maker when he decided to start his own business designing and selling fitted furniture.

In 1982, David opened his first small shop in Huddersfield, and it was then that the business was truly born (we were known as Distinctive Interiors back then!).

Fast-forward 48 years, and today Daval remains a family-run business with David’s three sons – Simon, James and Paul – at the helm.

We are very proud that every made-to-measure kitchen, fitted wardrobe and dressing room we produce is still manufactured in Huddersfield, albeit at a slightly larger 100,000 square foot factory and by a much, much bigger team!

Through clever design, creating a brand-new ‘room within a room’ enhanced this family home with a practical utility space without the requirement to extend externally.

Sharing a look at some of the lovely design details in this in-frame kitchen project which features Oakley in Putty and Charcoal. The antique brass finishes used across the hardware work beautifully to add a contemporary finish to this traditional style kitchen renovation.

Oakley in Putty features on the perimeter cabinetry, where the main cooking run incorporates a Rangemaster Elise oven with induction hob, flanked by an antique effect glass splashback.

The central island uses a 60mm worktop to contrast with the 30mm worktop on the perimeter.

Large pull handles by Corston Architectural Detail feature on the full-height fridge and freezer doors.

A day pantry houses a hidden microwave and provides additional storage space with worktop, ideal for preparing cereal and making coffee at breakfast time.

The Quorn Stone floor tiles complete the room, bringing this in-frame kitchen scheme together.
