When is a cushion not just a cushion ?

The Palaya Carver for A Seat at the Table by Aeven Decorex International | Europe’s Luxury Interior Design Show has been designed and made to be sat in for long periods of time. The solid cherry seat is generous in proportion and is sculpted and gently angled, the arms slope down down from the back mirroring human arms at rest and the back is reclined with a central bar that smaller than all the other spindles with a dip in the middle so doesn’t it dig in. The back rest has also been hollowed to follow the curve of the back and the dip in the front of the seat is there to accommodate shorter legs!

So a lot of thought, time and effort had gone into making it comfortable so why add a cushion?

After meeting F.ROZE at an Aeven event, we fell in love with F.Roze fabrics so we approached her to ask if we could use her fabric on a cushion for the chair. Thankfully she said yes immediately.

I was drawn to her Iceland collection, not least because Iceland is very close to our hearts ( I can often be found googling “how can I move to Iceland 😂)

Oli and I had a magical, restorative trip there a couple of years ago which was really needed at the time. We could completely see why Freya found such connection to and inspiration from this incredible country. (Photos and videos do not even come close to how amazing it is)
Freya and I met a month ago and went through all of her gorgeous designs and we decided that the F.ROZE Blönduós Iceland Fabric would work beautifully with the colours of the Palaya spindles and the amber of the Cherry and we couldn’t be more pleased with the choice.
The wonderful Andrea created cushion for us so it matched the shape of the chair and showcased the fabric perfectly.

Meeting and collaborating with Freya has been a joy so Thankyou to Grant Pierrus and Alex Dauley for bringing us together Aeven.

Let’s us know in the comments if you love the chair and cushion together as much as we do. ❤️

We are so pleased and excited to say that Twisted Eye are joining Aeven at Decorex International | Europe’s Luxury Interior Design Show for A Seat at the Table, a celebration of the makers, materials and ideas shaping British design today.

Last year, after spending the week at Decorex taking it all in, we came away with a determination to exhibit here one day. Thanks to Grant Pierrus Alex Dauley and the team at Aeven, we literally have A Seat at the Table this year.

For Decorex and A Seat at the Table we’ve created a carver chair in our new Palaya design, which will run across a collection of furniture and accessories - which is coming very soon!

We’ve also had the chance to collaborate with the fabulous Freya F.ROZE (who we met at an Aeven event- highly recommend) for a bespoke cushion made by Andrea Andrea Williams using fabric from F.roze’s gorgeous Iceland collection.

It’s incredible to have our work sitting alongside so many brilliant makers and designers from across the UK, and we’re very proud to be part of it.

Thanks so much for all your support - it means the world to us, it really does.

This is some of making of the Palaya chair that will be part of A Seat at the table .

There were a LOT of challenges for this prototype but we did it!

We can’t wait to see it in Situ amongst all the other fabulous seats and artwork on Sunday.

From this can you tell us what Timbers we used to make it ? - all British and locally grown near to our workshop in Gloucestershire.

Here’s some more photos of the Palaya carver that we created for Aeven A Seat at the Table for Decorex International | Europe’s Luxury Interior Design Show.

But what is Palaya? As you know we love colour at Twisted eye but wanted to make something entirely natural to sit along with our colourful Colpop design.

Palaya is a showcase of the beauty and variety of colour, grain and character found in British timber. Not just between each species but in every tree, plank and even within a single piece of wood. Timbers are laminated together randomly and each part is individually turned or shaped to reveal layers of changing colour and grain, so every piece is fascinating and unique.

Along with the chair, we will soon be launching the Palaya design in lamps, mirror and shelving with more furniture and accessories to follow.

The last year has been a really hard time for small independent businesses and even being nominated in these awards give us much needed boost so winning either one would be amazing. ❤️

Thank you all - Sharon and Oli x

(I’ve had to use a wedding photo as it’s the best one we’ve got of both of us because we generally take a terrible photo 😂)

THE VOTES HAVE BEEN COUNTED and the decision is made. Was it the green or orange Colpop that got the most votes for a piece for a special reason ?

We’ll tell you more about why we’re doing this next week but for now , tell us what you think about the decision❤️
