Decorative Arts, Ceramics & Glass 26th November 2019

So redolent of the period, you can see it hanging in an Art Deco mansion – maybe one of the smaller rooms at Eltham or Poirot’s apartment in Whitehaven Mansions, lot 23 was a period brass ceiling light fitting in the form of three ship's prows, each with three pink glass galleon sails, deck railings and individual figureheads. There were even three tiny ship’s lanterns at the top of the central ‘mast’. The set was completed by three matching single prow wall lights, each with three pink glass galleon sails.

Spring Auction Tuesday 28th April

As we have previously noted (re: cutlery in February) the Victorians could invent and design an article for any and all occasions. In our spring auction we have a portable writing and stationery box made by Lloyd, Payne & Amiel of Manchester. This one is made from figured walnut and has a front which opens out to reveal a well-fitted interior for your envelopes, paper, stamps, etc and three small drawers above a section for inkwells and a pen tray. Remarkably there is also a fold-out leather lined writing slope. The whole is of great quality and would be a very useful and stylish addition to any room. However, it isn’t particularly portable by today’s slim line laptop standards. On the other hand, it does not need charging, nor do you need a printer.

Timmy Mallett – Artist

People in their late 30s/early 40s, and their parents, may well remember the children’s TV presenter Timmy Mallett and the morning show Wacaday, which ran on UK television in the school holidays from 1985 – 1992. For those of you who are too young or old to remember you can find information and great clips online.
Following on from Mallett’s Mallet came Mallett’s Pallette – The Cycling Artist (mallettspallette.co.uk).
