Do you know the mineral content of your forage? 🌱🐄
Just as we analyse forage for energy and protein when building a ration, understanding its mineral content is important too.
Mineral levels can vary significantly between forages, meaning a standard approach to supplementation may not accurately reflect what your herd needs.
Forage mineral analysis helps our Dairy team understand the starting point before matching mineral supplementation to the forage, overall diet, production targets and animals.
The benefits can include:
• More precise mineral nutrition
• Less waste
• Support for rumen function
• Supporting animal health, productivity and profitability

Following updates to mineral requirements of dairy cattle in 2021, the Harbro team have been working with farmers to review mineral supply and challenge old industry beliefs 🐮
Oversupply of trace elements and major minerals is still an issue on UK dairy farms, and this can be just as detrimental to health and performance as undersupply. More is not always better. To be the most profitable and efficient, optimising rumen health and performance is key, and responsible mineral nutrition is a part of that.

If you haven’t reviewed your minerals on your farm recently, now is the time. With mineral prices rising and herd margins under pressure, a mineral audit is the simplest way to reduce waste, protect cow health and make sure every penny you spend is working for your herd, not against it. 💧 If you wouldn’t drink it, don’t expect your stock to drink it.
Harbro Nutritionist Jill Hunter features in The Press & Journal, looking at one of the most important, and often overlooked, parts of livestock nutrition: water.
From access and cleanliness to water quality and intake, Jill explains why getting the basics right can have a real impact on animal health, feed intake and performance.
Keeping water clean and readily available doesn’t need to be complicated either! Harbro stores stock a range of water troughs, along with disinfectants and cleaning products to help keep existing troughs clean and fit for purpose.
Great to see Jill sharing her expertise in the Farming section 👏
