🌿 A little more privacy for this Kendal garden!

Our customers had recently planted a new hedge but decided they wanted something that would provide more immediate privacy, so we replaced it with this smart 3ft-high timber fence.

What started as a call-out to quote for a repair soon turned into a full replacement 👷‍♂️

We were asked to take a look at this old raised composite deck near Grange, but after inspecting the structure underneath, it was clear the timber frame had deteriorated too far for a safe repair.

So, we stripped the old decking and rotten frame right back and rebuilt the deck from scratch using new timber, while carefully reusing the existing glass balustrade.

The end result has completely transformed the space — and most importantly, it’s now solid, safe and built to last. 👌

Really pleased with how this one turned out!

🌿 Another Display Completed! 🏡

After completing the landscaping display at Travis Perkins Kendal last year, we were delighted to be invited back to create another display—this time at Travis Perkins Morecambe.

This project was on a much larger scale, giving us the opportunity to showcase an even wider range of landscaping products and ideas. The new display features natural stone, porcelain, block paving, fencing, timber and composite decking, planters, archways and garden benches, creating a space packed with inspiration for anyone planning to transform their garden.

A huge thank you to the team at Travis Perkins Morecambe for trusting us with another fantastic project. We’re really pleased with how it turned out, and we hope it gives customers plenty of ideas for their own outdoor spaces.

We recently clad this wall in Barrow using 2x1 landscape battens and blackout fabric, creating a smart, modern finish.

As you can see from the before photos, the wall was previously very unsightly with a lot of broken and damaged render.

The timber cladding has completely transformed the space and provides a much cleaner backdrop for the garden.

Today we replaced a very tired old gate and fence in Kendal for a lovely local couple.

The brief was simple:

An example of why correct subframe preparation matters 👇

When building a deck, what’s underneath is just as important as what you see on top.

Deck joists should always be raised off hard surfaces and the ground to allow airflow and proper drainage.
In examples like this, where joists sit directly on a concrete pad, they can remain damp for long periods. Over time, this trapped moisture can lead to premature rot and reduced lifespan.

The orientation of joists is also important. Joists are designed to be installed on edge, not laid flat. Installing them the wrong way can significantly reduce strength and load-bearing capacity, increasing the likelihood of movement and long-term issues.

Good subframe preparation helps to:
• prevent standing water
• reduce rot and movement
• maximise strength and rigidity
• significantly extend the lifespan of a deck

Board direction also plays an important role. Wherever possible, decking boards should be run away from the house to encourage water to drain naturally. Boards can be run parallel, but only when the subframe is designed correctly with adequate fall and drainage built in.

These details might not be visible once the decking goes down, but they make all the difference to how long a deck lasts.

This is why we always focus on doing things properly from the ground up.
