We got our sign for our 'beds for bees' earlier in the week so I put it in the plot this afternoon. Even more happy that the rain this morning saved me havimg to water them . Unfortunately with the rain comes weeds!

We got our Beds for Bees sign yesterday. We were awarded over 100 plants that naturally attract bees and other pollinators in the spring. We planted in the top corner of the plot and for the most part they have survived, if not thrived in the heat with limitef water for irrigation. Luckily we had a few extra plants donated by a member at planting time so the site is still looking good, if lacking much in the way of flowers. We will buy a few replacement plants brfore the growing season ends. I will put the sign on a suitable post and add it to the site. I will send photos of sign and the plants in the next week.

Bit of a tidy up at Tweedbank Allotments ahead of the Open Day next Saturday 1st August , 12 noon to 3pm. Fine piece of carpentry by Brian to solve the sticky door on the wee shed. My more agricultural efforts to try to keep Peter Rabbit and his gang to sneek under the gate. All looking tidy for next week. Hope to see you there. Free tea/ coffee cakes and scones.

Allotment Member released from imprisonment!
Nothing like a Daily Mail type headline to catch your attention, even if its only tangentially associated with the real story!
Today one of our members got locked in the site as someone went home locking the gate behind them, leaving a member busy working on their plot, unaware of their imprisonment. Luckily another member came down, opened the gate to find the member working away unaware of their predicament and was released to take their place in the outside world. If you are working on site PLEASE check if anyone is left on the site before locking the gate.
techniques such as LOOKING or giving SHOUT OUT may be useful ways to avoid embarrassment.
Padlocks they are so tricky!

Now an appeal. One of our new members is struggling to keep weeds under control whilst they get on with planting. If you have any cardboard lying at home could you bring it to the cardboard store on site so that they can cover the area whilst working on planting. Thank you

Just had a walk down to the site to pin down my nets to try to save some if my cabbages from the rampaging pigeons. Had a walk round to see how well the site is looking. The couple of plots that were a bit unloved are now looking much better.

Our wee pond has produced masses of tadpoles and froglets. I hope that most of them grow into frogs to enjoy the slugs and snails that we have bred specially for them.

Dont forget our Open Day Saturday 1st August. More details to follow!

A busy morning at the allotments this morning. We have been awarded over 100 plants from 'Beds for Bees' to plant so as to attract pollinating bees and insects. We had the delivery last week but had a mix up in communication and the team we were expecting to plant them today did not materialise and our members stepped up and got the job done. Its all looking well and waiting for the flowers to to appear alongst with the pollinating bees

With our new water collection systems slowly filling it was time to take down some 10 litre containers for transporting the water from the tanks to the plots. At the end of last year all the old containers had to subcome to the effects of sunlight and had cracked. I have managed to gather 6 new ones so far but we could do with another half dozen. If you know of any sources of a few more can you beg or borrow them. We have not connected up the taps for the new water stations as we want to see how long they will take to fill.We have the connectors in the small shed. Good to see a project finished!
