Today, in our Design for Thought series, we explore Cubitts’ new Manchester store, designed by Manchester-based studio Youth for the eyewear brand Cubitts; a project that demonstrates how design can become an expression of identity, history, and experience.

Textured glass displays, crafted metalwork, bespoke joinery, and a central oak counter highlight the importance of detail, materiality, and human interaction. Every element contributes to an experience that goes beyond function, showing how thoughtful design and custom solutions can shape the way people connect with a space.

The dialogue behind the design.
Behind every completed space is an ongoing exchange between design intent, technical expertise, and production.

Textiles introduce another layer of expression within an interior.

Beyond their functional role, fabrics bring warmth, texture, and a tactile dimension that shapes the atmosphere of a space.

Through careful selection, precise craftsmanship, and attention to detail, upholstered elements become an integral part of the architectural narrative.

Between the first sketch and the completed space lies a process of interpretation, experimentation, and precision.

Design realisation is where architectural ideas gain physical presence through the selection of materials, the refinement of details, and the expertise required to transform a vision into a fully resolved environment.
