Step inside ARCANUM FORMAE.
The exhibition at Hôtel de Sully in Paris brings together the essence of Joseph Walsh’s practice: from studies, to sculptural furniture, to monumental pieces.
In the run-up to the installation, each of these moments will be presented through a key piece. Within the sculptural furniture line, the Enignum table stands as one of the clearest expressions of the studio’s longstanding pursuit of material innovation.
For Hôtel de Sully, Joseph Walsh reinvents the Enignum table as an homage to its origins: the seventeenth unique piece in seventeen years, and the first made entirely in walnut, with ebonised legs and a rich burr walnut top.

— Joseph Walsh, quoted in Forbes, 2025
The first Enignum pieces date back to 2009 and mark a pivotal moment in Joseph Walsh’s career.
The title Enignum derives from the Latin Enigma (mystery) and Lignum (wood), reflecting the series’ central idea: the mystery of form found within the material.
Since then, works from this series have joined the collections of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, the Centre Pompidou, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs amongst others.
