Macroom Tidy Towns is a local voluntary organisation : https://macroomtidytowns.ie Often followed by a cuppa, and a good chat!

Every Saturday morning, we meet at 9am and spend two hours clearing up litter, weeding flower beds and carrying out other tidy towns activities. We always welcome new volunteers, so if you have some free time, please come along - the more the merrier!

Today we had some work in the Tiny Feet Fairy Garden followed by a biodiversity walk and talk given by John Lyons and Sean Cremin ,both are Climate Ambassadors, up along the riverbank. 🍃🌿🌳🐿️
Earlier in the week we were planting wildflower seeds along the prepared area at the Bowl Rd. Hopefully good coverage when they germinate in the Spring. The council assisted the volunteers in the removal of deep rooted shrubs.
Cast iron posts from Oakwood entrance were moved to a suitable painting area,for the contractors.
We finished off as usual on Saturday with a bounty of scones provided by The Mulligan Room , tasty! 😋📣😍🤩

Today most were putting down wood chippings at the flower bed in the Town Park.Hello new faces! 😃. This was followed up by our regular batch of scones from Armands Ceimers 📣😋😇😍. The rest of the week consisted of : Marking and taking levels at coolcour ,Finbarr finished "flailing the grass" .Some wildflower seeding to be done. Hanging baskets(62) removed till next year. Catenary and guy wires added to locations Cast iron poles removed from new mural area at Oakwood estate, for repainting. Biodiversity walk next week.

For this week: From removing waste metal to the recycling centre ,attending anti-litter presentation ,grass cutting ,weeding , applying wood preservative, etc. Saturdays volunteer work with some new Gaisce members! : continuing work at the Bowl Rd, The Killarney Rd team of John and Asad testing the rotary brush sweeper , litter patrols . Preparatory work at Colmans Pk and at Coolcour : heavy duty grass removal and surveying. Morning work, of course finished with les scones from Armands Ceimers at The Mulligan Room .Their Christmas menu is out! A belated thanks to Breda and Jack at TP Cotter's from 2 lucky volunteers who had a lovely lunch there ,on foot of their efforts at the food festival 😋😋😁🧢🤩

Saturday 26th: litterpicking around town and out the coolyhane rd . Preparing the leaf collecting and mulching tools!. Full Irish ,guacamole and other lovely breakfast selections courtesy of The Mulligan Room 😋🥰. Earlier, Sunday 20th Setting up the food vendor stalls.Preparing the marquee for the Danone sponsored "Schools cook off competition" .Great breakfast provided for the setup team, by the girls at Sullane Haven ! . Fun time had by all at the Food Festival. Monday to Friday ,Grass cutting and strimming ,clearing out storage areas in Bealick Mill .A robin was happy to fly in for a drink from the runoff of our rainwater harvesting testing!😁 .

Saturday: down at the Bowl Rd, cleanup on the Killarney Rd side, litter picking and assisting on setup for the Macroom Food Festival .
Earlier in the week : Hedge trimming near the bus station ,assisting on schools x country race day West Muskerry Athletic Club .
Cork Volunteer Centre litter pick along the Sullane from the Town Park . Some regular volunteers and new! . Erecting Marquee in the square for the Festival. Touching base with various interlinked groups. An post ,some letterbox painting, upon representation. The area outside the new post office/old Lidl building needed a lot of work! .Most of Saturday morning was spent on that. Earlier in the week cleaned and repainted 32oz bowl bollards were replaced near oakwood estate entrance. 🌊 Volunteers needed: Macroom Riverbank Litter Pick! 🌊

Did you know approximately 80% of marine litter comes from land-based, inland sources? Our riverbank clean-up matters just as much as the coastal ones, so let's show up for the River Sullane 💪

That's why Cork Volunteer Centre is supporting Clean Coasts' Big Beach Clean 2026 and inviting people living in and around Macroom to take part!

Back to the Bowl Rd this Saturday! ,Paul Liam and Tony around Town on their routes. Blueberry scones back at the hub from The Mulligan Room for some ! . Later at 2pm some of the morning volunteers attended the official opening of the West Muskerry Athletic Club new Athletic Grounds. Our Chair , Cllr Martin Coughlan who was one of the original founders of the Athletic Club back in 1984 , and Tony Daly ,who was the first person to wear the distinctive West Muskerry AC strip at a competitive event attended with us!

Saturday: Most,including a new Volunteer, went down clearing and trimming on the Bowl Rd. Liam, Murt and Paul went on their litter routes. During the week: plant watering, it was dry until friday 😁,now our rainwater tanks are 2/3 full! .Deep cleaning of bollards removed from entrance to Oakwood estate,followed by priming and painting . Richard did his biweekly collection of the contents of doggy waste bins located in the Castle Demesne and Tom Creedon Park, gloves definitely needed to unload! . A big reorganisation and clearout of the operations hub ,and of course Saturday would not be complete without Blueberry scones ,donated by Armands The Mulligan Room , Macroom Golf Club . 📣😋👧🧑🫂.

Our project at "the bull" is almost complete. Planting went ahead much sooner than expected 📣 . Preparation work on another project at the entrance to Oakwood estate is proceeding with added impetus and added heavy duty Kango ! . Bollards removed for sanding and cleaning in preparation for painting. On Saturday volunteers worked in the Town Park,clearing weeds,pruning and the like while some of our regular team were litterpicking ,and clearing downtown . Nice work all!. Of course the day was not complete without Armands Ceimers and The Mulligan Room donated supply of blueberry scones!
