V for Wood has been created to educate about woodworking, to teach woodworking and to provide aid in woodworking projects. Contact us for more details.

We are a team of passionate woodworkers conducting weekend woodworking workshops in and around Mumbai. The idea is to empower individuals to build projects on their own.The process in no way is easy, but mostly heartfelt satisfying, and with a lot of learning , which is what we strive for.

I've always loved teaching woodworking. And I've always loved collaborating with other woodworkers to learn from each other and make stuff. This is the first time though that I'm doing both.

Serving people is fun. ☺️

This is no ordinary chaiwala's tray. This one is made from a bunch of teak strips that the local sawmill sells for cheap. The labour involved in putting together the boards for this tray though is massive. Labour far exceeds the material cost. That's something we need to work into the cost.

Do you want one?

Mohraan farms has appeared in the physical world.

It took me nearly 2 hours of bobbing and weaving to jigsaw that signboard. And to be honest my arm isn't happy with the vibrations. I on the other hand am pleased as punch. Under my guidance Sachin has made the clothes rod and the curtain holders for the at . We made a space for the chickens to lay eggs and ofcourse a whole load of random support has been give to many activities. Now finally I made something on my own, no help, no guiding, just go go go.

I had a blast. I just pray the BWP ply is strong enough to withstand the rains.

This is a gum boot stand or a solution as per pinterest. created the initial design and made the first version of this stand. πŸ‘πŸ‘

I will tell you a lot of cool things about sachin very soon. For now suffice it to say he is a student of mine and he is also my host. (So I must be nice hahaha)πŸ™„

Ok so the design is simple. 4 holes in a solid block of wood. And then 4 stumps of bamboo are jammed in. The bamboo has been trimmed to length and then shaved to the correct thickness to fit tightly into the holes.
πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
We've used a HOLESAW and then switched to the SPADE BIT or trishul to get deeper into the block. A CHISEL which I brought along helped trim the bamboo and also round the edges. The bamboo was cut to length using a HACKSAW. And a mallet to hammer the stumps in. Oh and a wooden randa, HANDPLANE, to round of the edges give a little bit of a finish to the piece. Not bad for just 5 instruments. I'm really pushing

What fun we had at the Woodworking with power tools workshop. These images are from a week back. πŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒπŸ‘πŸ‘
We hosted some really lovely folks among them was a pair of friends who built a shoe rack; friendship ho to aise. Woodworking is a great activity to do as a couple. (Friends or more it doesn't matter)
A father who was whetting us for a class for his son (his son is registered for a 2 month class, so we must have impressed him).
My oldest participant so far a 67 year old. He was a bit worried about energy levels, but he not only enjoyed himself but at the end of the workshop while walking off with a wine tote said, "power tools aren't difficult as long as we stand the way you taught us."
Tulu, from Pune made another beer tote. He came to us due to love. (His wife researched and found us online. Did all the research and then gifted her husband a woodworking workshop)
Finally Anand, who did the Introduction to woodworking last month made a bookshelf. As usual he finished so fast that we didn't even get a chance to click a snap with him.

Introduction to Woodworking for kids and woodworking class for kids. Due to a big push by the parents. has finally decided to do on weekends. πŸ‘πŸ‘ From last weekend on we will have 3 kids joining us every Saturday for 3 hours.😲😲
Yes they will drive is mad, but what's the fun of life if they don't. At V for Wood, we've found that the more questions the child has, the more fun we have teaching and guiding them.πŸ•ΊπŸ•ΊπŸ•Ί
We love curiosity and we love answering all their questions.

So this!! πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊThis is what you would create and take away at the weekend getaway workshop. It's all customisable, of course, the panel designs, the scroll saw art and the resin art. All of it can be tweaked, 😲 because we will teach you the skill and not just lamp making.πŸ‘πŸ‘
If this interests you then you should look at the new rates we've worked out.
So see you at the workshop

Japanese style lamp 2: getting there slowly and steadily.

Now to complete the final panel, stick some frosted paper and light it up. This is going to look really pretty.

Japanese lamp in the making for the . The little mallet we made for the is coming in real handy for all sorts of other things.

Here I'm making a panel for the Japanese style lamp and in keeping with my philosophy there are no nails or screws.... I'm using toothpicks as dowels.

We finally did it. dining set by , sharpening jig by and a nearly complete Japanese style lamp by V for Wood.
This was just another random day when the 3 of us were in the same place at the same time, but on this occasion we were productive.
Side by side at 42B, while shooting the breeze we worked our own crafts. Working with professionals always gives me high and yesterday was a day to repeat. In fact we plan to do this every week.
What do you think?

Knowing your wood, whether it's old wood or new wood! 😁
I'd been asked by the director of conservation at the CSMVS (Prince of Wales museum) to take a day on wood, during their 10 day long workshop on "Conservation of Tanjore Paintings".
It was a great day, with the conservators asking some really incisive questions. Their perspective is to preserve and our is always to replace and it struck me that in the past there was as much or as little care for quality. So you see some panels in really good shape. (About 5% I'm told) and the rest are just in varied states. So much of the conservation strategy is based on understanding how the material will behave. I really was in awe of the challenge these guys take on. And the responsibility of our nation's heritage.
I'd be sweating bullets if I had to take the responsibility of maintaining these objects.

So kudos to our conservators, may they continue to save our past for our future.
