Severe cyclonic storm Arnab LIVE updates: Heavy rain lashes parts of Odisha as Cyclone Arnab crosses Andhra coast

Severe cyclonic storm Arnab LIVE updates: Severe cyclone Arnab made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast between Kakinada and Yanam in Puducherry early on Wednesday, bringing destructive winds and heavy rain across coastal areas and disrupting daily life. The severe cyclonic storm crossed the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts before weakening into a severe cyclonic storm, the IMD said. Odisha special relief commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil said that it is likely to reach Malkangiri district of Odisha by this evening or tonight.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had identified the landfall zone between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, south of Yanam. The weather agency also warned that a storm surge of 1.5 to 2.5 metres above the astronomical tide could flood low-lying areas, particularly around Kakinada and Yanam.

The storm also caused damage in other parts of Andhra Pradesh. Several trees were uprooted, and power lines snapped at multiple locations in Kakinada. In Visakhapatnam, heavy rain and strong winds brought down trees, blocking Beach Road and Seethammadhara.

The IMD recorded extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 200 mm at several locations in Anakapalli and Visakhapatnam districts between 8.30 am on October 27 and 3 am on October 28. Heavy rain and strong winds were also reported in parts of West Bengal
