Have you ever seen a classical guitarist playing a guitar with a black soundboard? And is that black really just a color?

The first 78-rpm records, the ones played on gramophones, were not made of plastic but of shellac, mixed with inert materials and carbon black. The very same shellac that has long been used to finish guitars. If one of those old 78-rpm records were placed in alcohol, after a while it would dissolve, leaving you with something that could be used… to varnish a guitar black.

To create a strong visual contrast, the back and sides are made from splendid satinwood, with its warm and luminous color.

For many years I have used a tornavoz inside many of my guitars. Until now they had always been made of wood, and I had never built one in brass. But a special guitar calls for a special tornavoz: using male and female dies, I pressed a wavy pattern into a thin sheet of brass.

Avete mai visto un chitarrista classico suonare una chitarra con la tavola armonica nera? E quel nero è davvero soltanto un colore?

I primi dischi a 78 giri, quelli che giravano sui grammofoni, non erano fatti di plastica ma di gommalacca, mescolata con materiali inerti e nero fumo. La stessa gommalacca che da sempre si utilizza per verniciare le chitarre. Se si immergesse uno di quei vecchi 78 giri nell’alcool, dopo un po’ si scioglierebbe, restituendo qualcosa che potrebbe servire… per verniciare di nero una chitarra.

Per creare un forte contrasto visivo, fondo e fasce sono realizzati in uno splendido satinwood, dal colore caldo e luminoso.

Da molti anni utilizzo il tornavoz all’interno di molte delle mie chitarre. Finora li avevo sempre realizzati in legno e non ne avevo mai costruito uno in ottone. Ma una chitarra speciale richiede un tornavoz speciale: con l’aiuto di stampi maschio e femmina ho impresso una trama ondulata su un sottile lamierino di ottone.

This instrument is the first of two built for this year’s Limited Edition, a series of special projects developed specifically for the Roma Expo Guitars.

It is a unique Furore that nevertheless remains faithful to the principles of the line. The back is made from an assembly of offcuts of Brazilian rosewood, a way of giving value even to the smallest fragments of one of the most extraordinary woods in lutherie.

Si tratta di una Furore unica che rimane però fedele ai principi della linea. Il fondo è realizzato con un assemblaggio di scarti di palissandro brasiliano: un modo per valorizzare anche i frammenti più piccoli di uno dei legni più straordinari della liuteria.

The Roma Expo Guitars begins today. I brought three instruments with me. Let's start with the classic of classics, a Hauser model with Madagascar rosewood back and sides. This set is particularly beautiful; it could easily be mistaken for Brazilian rosewood.

Sono passati 11 anni dall'ultima volta che ho partecipato al Roma Expo Guitars e tra poco più di una settimana potrete provare i miei nuovi strumenti all'edizione 2026.
È il mio primo evento dopo molto tempo e sono molto emozionato, porterò cose di cui sono molto orgoglioso.

Venerdì 13, sabato 14 e domenica 15 marzo 2026 il Roma Expo Guitars giunge alla sua 14a edizione, ci vediamo lì!!!

It's been 11 years since I last attended Roma Expo Guitars, and in just over a week, you'll be able to come try out my new instruments at the 2026 edition.
It's my first event in a long time and I'm pretty excited, I'll bring things that I'm very proud of.

Friday 13th, Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March 2026 Roma Expo Guitars is in its 14th edition, see you there!!!

After the move, I needed a bit of vacation, and I took the opportunity to visit a couple of dear friends who live in New York. It was also a great opportunity to spend a few days with my friend and colleague , who flew in from Los Angeles.

6 I've visited many vintage guitar shops, and the best was definitely TR Crandall Guitars. An incredible collection of fine instruments and complete freedom to try out. Highly recommended.

8 I found the first 1997 album by Tre allegri ragazzi mortii , one of the best Italian rock bands, for $1.

Dopo il trasloco ho avuto bisogno di fare un po' di vacanza e ho colto l'occasione per andare a trovare una coppia di cari amici che vivono a New York. é stata anche un'ottima occasione per passare qualche giorno insieme al mio amico e collega Reynoso Guitars www.reynosoguitars.com , volato da Los Angeles.
