Kuala Terengganu, 8 October 2026: The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC), in collaboration with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), successfully concluded the fifth and final session of the MTC Occupational Safety and Health Coordinator (OSH-C) Training Programme, held from 27 to 29 September 2026 at the Terengganu Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TCCCI), Kuala Terengganu.

The three-day session brought together 15 participants from 13 timber companies, extending the programme’s reach to timber industry players across the East Coast region.

The programme aims to strengthen industry awareness of statutory occupational safety and health (OSH) requirements, support timber companies in fulfilling their legal obligations, particularly the appointment of an OSH Coordinator, and promote safer workplace practices by equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to identify and manage occupational hazards and risks.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive the official NIOSH OSH-C e-Certificate and be registered in the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) MyKKP system as trained OSH Coordinators. Participating companies will also receive a complimentary Workplace Improvement Needs Analysis (WINA) conducted by NIOSH to support efforts to improve workplace safety standards.

With all five sessions successfully completed in Muar, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Batu Pahat and Kuala Terengganu, the programme has equipped a total of 109 personnel from 97 timber companies nationwide, further strengthening OSH competency, regulatory compliance and safety awareness across Malaysia’s timber industry.

MTC extends its sincere appreciation to NIOSH, the programme trainer, Mr. Hezam bin Ismail, and all participating companies for their participation and commitment to workplace safety. This collective effort contributes towards building safer, healthier and more resilient workplaces while strengthening the overall sustainability and competitiveness of Malaysia’s timber industry.

Mumbai, 6 October 2026: The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) participated in the Mumbai Wood exhibition and conducted a market visit in Mumbai to engage with timber and timber product companies, as well as timber and furniture associations, from 18 to 25 September 2026.

The MTC team participated in Mumbai Wood 2026, held from 18 to 20 September at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, and organised by NürnbergMesse India. During the exhibition, MTC engaged with importers, distributors, manufacturers, architects, interior designers and other industry stakeholders to gain a better understanding of local sourcing practices, product requirements, logistics and potential areas for future cooperation. Malaysian timber species and wood-based products were introduced as reliable and sustainable options for joinery, furniture and other interior and exterior applications.

Following the exhibition, the MTC team held meetings with local wood-based product, flooring and furniture companies. These meetings provided the team with valuable insights into Mumbai’s timber trade situation, encompassing regional pricing structures and the regulatory considerations facing importers under India’s Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification framework. The visit further served to identify prospective business contacts to expand the presence of Malaysian timber in India’s institutional and hospitality construction segments.

MTC was represented by Mr. Faizal Shah, Manager, Market Promotion Division (MPD), and Mr. Arif Nasir, South Asia Regional Representative.
