Lagos Youth Skills Day 2025: H&Y Furniture CEO, Mrs. Feyisola Abiru, Champions Skills As The Future Currency

On Wednesday, July 16th, 2025, over 500 young minds, educators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders gathered for the Lagos Youth Skills Day 2025, themed *“Equipping Tomorrow’s Leaders with Skills for a Brighter Future.”* The event served as a powerful convergence point for voices driving Nigeria’s skills development agenda, spotlighting the role of vocational training in shaping the next generation.

Among the distinguished panelists was Mrs. Feyisola Abiru, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of H&Y Furniture Manufacturers. Known for her deep commitment to skills-based empowerment through the H&Y Woodcraft EPIIC Academy, Mrs. Abiru shared her passionate perspective on the urgent need to reimagine how young Nigerians are prepared for the future.

Mrs. Abiru’s presence at the event underscored the growing importance of industry-led partnerships in vocational education. Through the *H&Y Woodcraft EPIIC Academy*, she has directly contributed to the training and professional development of young people in Lagos across woodcraft, design, and furniture manufacturing—helping to bridge the gap between learning and earning.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Mrs. Abiru was honoured with an award by the Lagos State Government, celebrating her work in advancing technical skills and entrepreneurship among the youth.

Also in attendance at the event were notable dignitaries including the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun; Executive Secretary of LASTVEB, Ms. Moronke Azeez; and Sandra Vermuijten of Programme at GIZ Centres for Migration and Development.

The event marks a significant step forward in building a future where skills are at the heart of development—and Mrs. Feyisola Abiru remains firmly at the forefront of that movement.

Feyisola Abiru Shines Spotlight on Structure and Standardisation at Lagos Masterclass and Lagos Leather Fair 2025

Mrs. Feyisola Abiru, CEO/MD of H&Y Furniture Manufacturers Limited, delivered a powerful message on the future of creative enterprise at two major industry events held on June 28, 2025, in Lagos. At The Business of Interior Design Masterclass hosted by VickyHeldan, and the prestigious Lagos Leather Fair 2025, Abiru captivated design professionals, industry stakeholders, and creative entrepreneurs with her core philosophy: “Structure is the New Creative.”

Drawing on over 30 years of experience leading one of Nigeria’s most respected modular furniture companies, Mrs. Abiru shared how H&Y Furniture Manufacturers (formerly Home & You) transitioned from a small furniture-making initiative into a structured, scalable production enterprise. Her keynote outlined how modularity, standardisation, and systems thinking have enabled H&Y to meet the growing demands of clients across the real estate, banking, education, government, and hospitality sectors in Nigeria.

Highlighting the company’s product line—which includes modular wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, doors, office workstations, reception counters, conference tables, and educational furniture—Mrs. Abiru emphasised the importance of pre-engineered templates and factory-grade consistency. At the core of H&Y’s success is its Ikorodu-based manufacturing facility and the H&Y EPIIC Academy, which trains a new generation of skilled furniture professionals guided by the company’s values: Excellence, Partnership, Innovation, Integrity, and Customer Care.

Speaking to a hall of architects, interior designers, and design enthusiasts at the masterclass in Lekki, Lagos, Abiru challenged the notion that structure stifles creativity. Instead, she showed how it amplifies it—offering leather designers and creative entrepreneurs practical insights on scaling production through cataloguing, workflow documentation, and systematised pricing.
