We started woodwork in 2013 with nothing but a vision to take fine woodworking to the best level it can possibly attain here in Uyo, Nigeria and globally. Since then, its been 8years of ups and downs. We started very small; with focus, dedication and singleness of purpose. There has indeed been massive growth along the way, but we have also had our fair share of losses and downtime. We have equally had huge victories and successes. In all, getting better and bigger was always the aim.

For the past two years, we have been privileged to work for some high and mighty people in and out of Akwa Ibom state and some big companies too. One sad thing we noticed while working for most of these people was that they all import most of their furniture from Turkey, dubai, UK, etc., and so often bring in craftsmen from Lagos, Abuja and in some cases, from out of the country. The remnant of the furniture which needed precise on-ground measurements and could not be imported was given to us. After working for these people, most of them were left impressed, and some of their architects wondered why we were not given the whole job in the first place.

Well, I had had discussions with some of them and explained that we had the skill and passion, but handicapped when it came to having precision and best tools and machines to compete with our foreign counterparts. I also advised them to invest in the sector by making the tools and machines available so we could produce all our furniture needs in-house and stop the capital flight and also truly empower our people to be able to produce locally and enhance their standards of living. To my surprise, none of them did anything about it, but still prefer to look outside for their furniture and craftsmen.
I will not totally blame them though, as many of our workmen here have not upgraded themselves with the requisite skills and attitudes to make end users have trust in their capabilities.

As a business concern, we, The RealWoodpeckers, had taken it upon ourselves to change that narrative one client at a time and by God's grace, we have been doing just that. Last year, after one of my speaking engagements, a young man walked up to me and discussed the prospects of partnership to set-up and run a standard workwork outfit with all the modern tools and machines needed. This year, we are happy to announce that we have just taken charge of one of the best workshops in this region and have begun production of some of the finest furniture that will be seen in this part of the country.

I am using this opportunity to let the good people of Akwa Ibom and Nigeria know that we are back in business for real and ready to deliver world class furniture to them. I am also using this medium to let other furniture makers in the state and beyond to know that we can help them achieve that standard too with their work. They can get in touch with us and have us help them produce masterpieces for their clients.

In this post, I will show you pictures of our new work space, and in my next post, I will show you pictures of some of the stuff we have already produced with these machines.
