Platowood increases the value of wood through a unique process that uses only heat and water from residual energy streams. This process sustainably enhances fast-growing wood species that naturally have a short service life. The resulting wood is high-quality, dimensionally stable, and aesthetically appealing, giving architects full design freedom. It is suitable for both interior and exterior applications, regardless of climate.

As part of this process, BES Bollmann has realized a treatment chamber for thermal modification. The wood is heated with steam in an oxygen-poor environment to a specific temperature, which varies depending on the wood species. In addition, factors such as the width of the wood and its initial moisture content influence the duration of the treatment.

“The kiln uses state-of-the-art technology. The heating elements are positioned closer to the wood, the process can be monitored even more precisely, and significantly less energy is consumed,” says Bart Raymann, Commercial Director of Platowood.

A key element is our advanced heat recovery system. By applying a crossflow plate heat exchanger, 70–80% of the heat from exhaust air is transferred to the incoming air, resulting in up to 30% thermal energy savings and a lower overall power demand.

The construction of the new drying kilns for ETORKI Industria de la madera, Spain continues to make strong progress.

Over the past weeks, the steel structures have been further assembled and the scale of the installation is now clearly visible on site. The new photos show how the main framework of the kilns is taking shape, including the installation of ventilation components and structural elements that will form the core of the drying system.

Step by step, the project is moving closer to its next phase. While the exterior structures become more defined, work behind the scenes continues as teams prepare the technical installations that will ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
