One of Kho Liang Ie’s most iconic projects was the interior of Schiphol Airport, completed in 1967. Through clear circulation, subtle changes in levels, warm oak and a carefully adapted version of Artifort’s 070 sofa, he created a calmer, more intuitive and human-centred travel experience.
The version developed for Schiphol was subtly adapted from the original 070, designed to fit seamlessly between the airport’s pillars while preserving its comfort, elegance and clarity. Today, the 070 sofa remains part of Artifort’s permanent collection, continuing to bring timeless design to public and cultural spaces around the world.
Kho's legacy can be rediscovered at the exhibition "Kho Liang Ie, Mid-Century Modernist" at the in Amsterdam. This is the final week to visit the exhibition, which includes a recreated section of Schiphol’s iconic interior and offers a closer look at his enduring influence on Dutch design. On view until 18 October.
