Food safety starts before transplanting. Clean, consistent substrates support controlled propagation, uniform root development, and fewer avoidable risks entering the crop early. For fresh produce, substrate quality belongs in the food safety conversation. 🌱

Food safety starts at propagation. Clean, consistent substrates help growers reduce contamination risk, improve root development, and build a more controlled production system from day one.

Could your propagation plug influence when your crop is ready to harvest? 🌱🍅

New research followed ‘Red Velvet’ microtomatoes from propagation through production in a greenhouse nutrient film technique (NFT) system. Under the conditions tested, plants started in Jiffy Preforma reached their first mature fruit 14 days earlier than plants started in one of the other plugs studied. Plants started in Jiffy 7-C coir Pellets and Jiffy 7 peat Pellets reached first mature fruit at 61 and 63 days after transplant, respectively.

Jiffy Preforma offers ready-to-use, customizable plug trays that support efficient handling and automation. Jiffy Pellets are supplied dry and compressed, then expanded with water for use in a range of hydroponic systems. Our team works with growers to select the format and growing media that fit their production needs best.
