MEET THE ARTISTS | Karien Kortenhorst & Florian Appelt

Two perspectives on form and structure.

From delicate wire constructions to precisely shaped geometric forms, these two artists explore structure in entirely different ways.

Karien Kortenhorst transforms metal wire into intricate, transparent sculptures. Through bending, hammering and weaving, she creates forms in which light and surrounding space become part of the work. Her sculptures reveal how a strong material can take on an unexpectedly delicate appearance.

Florian Appelt explores the relationship between colour, structure and design. In his Rounds series, he combines precise craftsmanship with experimentation, shaping rigid foam and finishing his works with pigmented epoxy resin. The result is a distinctive interplay of geometry, material and colour.

Two unique approaches that invite us to look more closely at the possibilities of form.

MEET THE ARTISTS | Mirjam Withaar & Bibi Smit

Inspired by nature. Shaped by hand.

Two artists who find inspiration in the natural world, each translating its beauty into a different artistic expression.

Mirjam Withaar draws inspiration from the changing seasons, the delicate structures of leaves and the traces nature leaves behind. Working with wool and the traditional technique of wet felting, she creates richly textured artworks that reflect the quiet beauty of growth, change and decay.

Bibi Smit captures the fleeting beauty of nature through glass. In her Clouds series, she draws inspiration from the ever-changing Dutch skies, translating their colours and movement into sculptural forms. Her Maru Mori works evoke the organic shapes of fallen fruits and petals, exploring the delicate balance between beauty and transience.
From the softness of wool to the transparency of glass, both artists invite us to discover nature from a different perspective.

One piece of wood. Endless possibilities.

Ruben van der Scheer has always been fascinated by how things work. His curiosity is shaped by both nature and the world around him, from architecture and buildings to waves, trees, shells, leaves and birds.

Working on the lathe is a physical and focused process. Ruben describes it almost as a dance, where focus, balance, rhythm and fluidity come together. The circle naturally plays a central role, with most of his works being round or built around circular forms.

Every piece is shaped from a single piece of native wood, without laminations. Rather than working towards a fixed message, Ruben allows meaning to emerge through the making itself, through the material, the form and the relationship between the work and the person experiencing it.

MEET THE ARTISTS | Aimes Jowil & Steven Edwards

Where experimentation takes shape.

Two artists, each exploring the possibilities of their materials in their own distinctive way.

Aimes Jowil approaches art with curiosity and an openness to experimentation. Working with pigments, beeswax and epoxy, Aimes builds up layers that give the work its depth and soft sheen. Mistakes and unexpected outcomes are not simply obstacles, but part of a creative process shaped by discovery.

Steven Edwards explores the possibilities of clay through an experimental approach to ceramics. Working with air-filled clay forms, he embraces the tension, fractures and unexpected changes that occur throughout the making process. His sculptural works reveal the playful and sometimes unpredictable nature of the material.

Different materials, different processes, but a shared curiosity for what can emerge through making.

When precision meets intuition.

For André van Lier, geometry is the starting point. Basic forms, and particularly the ellipse and tubular weave, form the foundation of a visual language in which art, mathematics and design come together.

His work combines a systematic approach with intuition. Geometric principles provide structure, while choices made during the process allow each composition to develop its own character.

The result is precise yet playful: sculptural works built around form, rhythm and repetition that invite you to look closer and experience geometry from a different perspective.

Drawn to reflections ✨

For Pepe Valenti, creativity begins with discovery. New environments, materials and skills continuously shape his practice, while nature remains a source of calm, energy and wonder.

A fascination with reflection became especially important after creating his first mirror works. “I think we humans are very attracted to reflections,” Pepe explains.

That curiosity is characteristic of his way of working. Rather than following a completely predetermined outcome, he allows discovery and intuition to become part of the process, creating a dialogue between himself and the material.

The result is work rooted in curiosity, nature and the unexpected.

Shaped by hands. Shaped by nature 🤎

For Natasja van der Meer, creating begins with a deep connection to nature. She works with what the earth offers: clay, stone, plants and wood, allowing the materials to keep their own character.

That relationship is at the heart of The Gems. The series explores symbiosis: the connection between what is shaped by human hands and what is shaped by nature. Each stone settles into the clay, bringing the two together as one.

For Natasja, the stone itself is the true gem. Her role is simply to create a place where it can shine.

Behind these seemingly quiet objects lies a slow process of gathering, waiting, researching and making. A way of working that requires patience and attention, something Natasja sees as increasingly valuable in a fast-moving world.
