Getting to grips with our new CAT 323 on a gum slaying job over in Wanaka. The boys have put in a massive effort with these monster trees, now on the final hurdle with the tidy up!

A serious new addition to the Whakatipu Timber fleet.

Our CAT 323 forestry excavator is now set up with a Powerhand EX36 grapple and rotating hitch, giving us greater control and capability for large-scale tree removals, forestry work, land clearing and timber handling.

This machine will allow us to take on bigger and more complex projects while continuing to work safely, efficiently, and with a highly mechanised approach.

Making the most of every tree.

On this recent clearance project, all usable logwood was recovered for timber and firewood, while the remaining branches and lower-grade material were processed into woodchip.

With the right machinery on site, we can manage the entire job efficiently—from tree removal and log handling through to chipping and final clean-up.

Our Palms logging trailer is a seriously versatile piece of gear.

It allows us to safely extract, load, and transport logs from difficult sites while keeping ground disturbance to a minimum.

Whether we’re recovering sawlogs, clearing windthrow or shifting timber ready for milling or firewood, this setup helps us make the most of every tree.

When the timber is too big to carry, we winch it.

Our Valtra forestry tractor and 10tn Krpan winch give us the pulling power to recover oversized tree sections safely and efficiently, including across difficult or sloping ground.

This mechanised approach reduces manual handling, improves control and helps us tackle work that smaller setups simply can’t.

Back on the graft with a wilding pine tree clearance job up Alpine Retreat - stunner views for the boys to open up, with our Krpan winch making light work of hauling trees up to the skid site.

We processed all brash and logwood into woodchip for their upcoming native replanting programme, leaving a clean and tidy site for the next stage.
