Alton Drilling is looking for an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to lead our South Island workshop teams and help keep our fleet safe, reliable and performing at its best.

This is a FIFO role and a great opportunity for someone who knows maintenance, knows how to lead a team, and isn’t afraid to get stuck in when needed.

We’re looking for someone with:
🔧 Trade qualification or strong maintenance experience
👷 Proven supervisory or team leadership experience
⚙️ Strong preventative & reactive maintenance knowledge
⛏️ Mining/drilling industry experience highly regarded
✅ A strong commitment to Health & Safety
🚗 Full driver’s licence and flexibility to travel
💰 Budgeting/cost control experience is an advantage

The Airleg Drilling Competition is back! 🪨

After being revived at the Waihi A&P Show last year for the first time in decades, the Airleg Competition is back for another year!

16 competitors will go head-to-head in knockout rounds, battling it out on speed and accuracy.

A great opportunity to showcase the skill, speed and accuracy of airleg drilling — an old-school craft that’s becoming increasingly rare.

And new this year… Jack & Jill!

Four teams, made up of male and female competitors, will battle it out over the lunch break. Should be a bit of fun!

We’re proud to be supporting the competition again this year, alongside others who are helping bring this piece of drilling history back to life.

- On site at Arapuni Hydro Dam -

Our team is currently working alongside Mercury Energy at the Arapuni Hydro Dam as part of a three-year infrastructure upgrade programme.

Using Rig 8586, Driller Rory Lambert and the crew are drilling a series of pressure relief holes into the dam's left abutment, supporting the long-term performance and resilience of the asset.

This video was captured during a helicopter restock, giving you a behind-the-scenes look at the project and the unique environment our crew is working in.

Great work from the team on site — we're proud to be involved in a project supporting New Zealand's critical infrastructure and renewable energy network.
