New life for this boat cockpit table! 🪵⚓️
The original veneer was completely ruined by water damage, so I stripped it all back to start fresh.
I milled down some 2mm Rosewood veneer leaves, jointed and clamped them up, then used a custom template to route the panel to an exact fit so it drops perfectly inside the raised gelcoat border. Once the fit was spot on, I glued it all down and built up 9 coats of satin marine varnish to keep that smooth natural look and protect it against the elements.
Super happy with how this one turned out!

From water-damaged to restored: A "Zen" Veneer Challenge ⚓
A few weeks ago, I shared a video about the meticulous patience required for this project.

The original veneer on these sailboat cabinets was badly damaged by moisture. This was a true masterclass in precision: working with delicate wood veneer leaves, hand-scribing each piece to match the original curved contours, and carefully sliding them under the existing trim without removing the whole unit.
It required a serious amount of "Zen" focus for those fiddly micro-adjustments, but the hard part is done. The new veneer is perfectly bonded with epoxy and finished with marine varnish for long-term protection.
The perfect timing to get this beautiful interior sorted while the boat is tucked away for the cooler months here in Whangārei! 🔨🌊
