Let’s talk about Quartz, the engineered stone. Due to their attractive appearance, durability and the fact they don’t have some of the weaknesses of natural stone (such as granite and marble), they’ve found a loyal following. Here’s a look at their strengths and weaknesses.

Pros
1. Durability. Quartz is actually harder and more durable than granite and marble. In fact, it’s nearly indestructible and not porous like granite, it’s easy to keep your countertops bacteria-free 😊 It won’t chip or crack easily as well.
2. Appearance. The look of quartz countertops is fairly contemporary unlike that of granite and marble.
3. Maintenance. Like other hard surface countertop materials, quartz is non-porous so it resists staining much better than granite and marble and even concrete. It stands up to juice, oil, wine, coffee and other stains in the kitchen. Furthermore, there is no need to have your quartz countertops resealed while having granite and marble on your kitchen means resealing is mandatory.
4. Price. Granite would cost from 3000-6000 per sqm while quartz would cost 6000 and up per sqm while its installation, depending on the style of edging, average cost would be 3000-4500 per sqm. You can do some of the preliminary work to save money but because engineered quartz is heavier than other stone surfaces, a professional installer needs to make sure the space is structurally sound.
