The World Safety Organization (WSO) was founded in 1975, in Manila the Republic of Philippines as a result of a gathering of over 1,000 representatives of the safety professions from all continents at the First World Safety Accident Prevention Congress. The WSO World Management Center was established in the USA in 1987 to responsible to all international WSO Activities, the liaison with the United Nations, the cooperation with numerous cooperating, National Safety Councils, professional safety, health and environmental ( and allied areas ) organizations, WSO International Offices, WSO International Chapters, and member corporations, companies, groups and societies. In 1989 the entire international operations of the WSO were moved to the WSO World Management Center, Warrensburg, Missouri, USA. and the WSO Philippine Islands chapter and World Safety Organization-International Office for Philippines is located at Unit C-Dominion Bldg., 162 B. Gonzales Street, Loyola Heights, Quezon City and at the Unit 204, 2nd Floor, Xanland Place Building, 323 Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City, Philippines.
The World Safety Organization-International Office for Philippines, an accredited Safety Training and Consulting Organization (STO/SCO) by the Bureau of Working Conditions, Department of Labor and Employment, Republic of the Philippines was established in 2004 to handle the specialized technical safety, health and environmental services and certifications, and as the sponsoring organization of the World Safety Organizationโs advocacies in โMaking Safety a Way of LifeโฆWorldwideโ. The World Safety Organization-International Office for Philippines also serves as liaison and Philippine Representative/Administrative Office of the World Safety Organization, WSO World Management Center, USA.
In August of 2005, the World Safety Organization-International Office for Philippines, started to set-up regional training centers in the Philippines and the first one is the WSO Region IV Center located at Governors Drive, General Trias, Cavite. The center now serves the training and consultancy requirements of multinational companies in the neighboring industrial zones the most significant of which is the appointment of WSO as the Third Party Training Center of Intel Technology Corp., the largest semiconductor company in the world.
In August of 2007, WSO opened its regional center in Cebu, which is located at the 3rd Floor, NDI Commercial Complex, A. S. Fortuna Street, Mandaue City, Cebu. The center now serves the EHS training requirements of industrial organizations located at Mactan Export Processing Zone and the neighboring islands of Bohol, Dumaguete, Negros and in Cagayan De Oro City and Davao City in Mindanao.
The WSO has set up offices, recruited personnel and provided facilities to pool technological and methodological knowledge in order for every country in the world to share this wealth of information and procedures in all areas of human endeavor.
The WSO helps all countries of the world to organize safety organizations, gives incentives and support to others where it is needed; encourages advance organizations in highly developed countries to share their expertise and wealth of knowledge with developed countries to share their expertise and wealth of knowledge with those needing this data.
The WSO conducts congresses, international meetings, seminars and training as often as necessary; and from these implements on a worldwide basis the findings, recommendations, resolutions and related results.
The WSO promotes all safety and related fields together with accident prevention professions and strives for the updating, upgrading and the maximizing the benefits for all practitioners in the above fields.
The WSO coordinate functions, activities, operations and related works with other international and national bodies and organizations if assistance is needed.
The WSO supports activities of other national and international professional organizations in their attempts to protect people, property, resources and the environment.
Purpose:
The purpose of the WSO is to internationalize occupational and environmental safety and health, and all other safety fields, together with an accident prevention movement; to disseminate through the entire world the benefits of safety and accident prevention practices, skills, arts and technologies.
Consultative Status to United Nations (UN):
The Economic and Social Council (United Nations) at its first regular session, on May 19, 1987, unanimously voted to grant Category II (NGO) Consultative Status with United Nations (UN) to World Safety Organization. The WSO is proud to selected as the only multi- discipline international professional safety organization in the world to be granted Consultative Status. The WSO and its members will assist the United Nations wherever and whenever possible.
Objectives:
To encourage the effective exchange of information and experience between among members of the WSO; collaborate with other international and national organizations in conducting activities of mutual concern , interest and directions; promote the continuous upgrading of the safety and of the safety and accident prevention technology and those fields related to losses of lives, property and environment; strive for a universal level of professionalism and competence among its members and the non-members whose functions are related to safety; perform such other necessary acts and functions relevant to the WSO overall theme " Make Safety a Way of Life."
WSO Certification/ Accreditation Board:
Established to recognize the professional qualifications of those safety practitioners whose expertise, experience and knowledge of safety and related field meet the acceptable international standard including examinations and re-evaluation outlined by this board.
