Here, children start with the big cube of 6³ and build outward:
🔷 Add three 6×6 squares to each side
🔷 Identify the remaining spaces
🔷 Fill all gaps with squares of 3 (six times)

How do you build the cube of a binomial?

Children begin with:
(3 + 5) × (3 + 5) × (3 + 5)
Then they:
🔵Build the first layer by multiplying everything by 3
🔵Bring back the equation
🔵Build the second layer by multiplying everything by 5
🔵Observe the combined layers forming the binomial cube

This lesson teaches:
✅Why (a + b)³ becomes a³ + 3a²b + 3ab² + b³
✅How multiplication distributes in 3D
✅That algebra is physical, not abstract

“What really makes a cube grow?”

Children build the cube of 7 from the cube of 6, then take it apart to examine every part.
They discover:
✨ The large cube (6³)
✨ Three 6×6 squares (6² × 1)
✨ Three edge prisms (1² × 6)
✨ A tiny cube (1³)

From these pieces, the equation appears naturally:
7³ = 6³ + 3(6² × 1) + 3(1² × 6) + 1³

“How does a cube grow?”

Montessori children don’t memorize formulas — they build them.

Using the Cubing Material, the child begins with a cube of 5 and asks:
👉 What do I need to add to turn this into the cube of 6?

They discover visually and sensorially that:
✔ First, add three squares of 5 — one on each exposed face
✔ Then add one more square of 5 on top
✔ But something is still missing…
✔ The remaining gaps are filled exactly with 1×1 red squares
✔ These 1² pieces complete the “growth layer” of the cube

When all pieces are added, the child has built the difference between 5³ and 6³ with their hands.
