Last Saturday, our town held a 5KM and 10KM Color Fun Run, and there were less than 500 of us who joined. I had my team with me, Mark and Jepsy, and you could really feel the excitement habang hinihintay namin ang start.
When we heard the whistle, kasabay ng pag-spray ng colored paint at pagbuhos ng tubig, we knew it was time to run! Most of us especially the teenagers ran as fast as they could. Everyone wanted to beat their pace, get ahead, and be among the first to reach the finish line. And yes, pati ako, nakisabay din. 😂
But when I reached around 3 kilometers, I started feeling tired maybe because of lack of preparation. Sumakit na rin ang likod ko, and that’s when I decided to slow down and walk for a while.
And while walking, something hit me:
It’s not always about how fast you start. It’s about how you finish the race.
Naglakad muna ako to rest. I didn’t feel bad about slowing down because I knew I still had one goal in mind and that is to reach the finish line.
Then I met this young man, probably half my age, who asked me, “Pwede po ba muna akong sumabay?” I said yes.
And honestly, I thought at first na baka kaya ako mabilis napagod dahil sa edad ko. 😂 But then I realized, even younger people get tired too. Sometimes, they also need to slow down, walk, and take a rest.
It reminded me that life is not a race against everyone else.
Sometimes, we run. Sometimes, we slow down. Sometimes, we need to rest. And that’s okay.
Ang importante, hindi tayo nawawala sa direction at hindi natin nakakalimutan kung saan tayo patungo.
Because resting doesn’t mean quitting. Slowing down doesn’t mean you’re losing. You can take a break, catch your breath, and continue again as long as you still have the finish line in sight.
So in this race called life, let’s not be too focused on how fast others are going. Let’s focus on finishing our own race faithfully and victoriously.
As the Bible says in 2 Timothy 4:7:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Let’s finish the race of life not just quickly, but faithfully, joyfully, and victoriously. 💪
