The Bridgeport Islamic Community Center in Bridgeport, is a bit different from most masjids because until 2017 the building was used for the historic United Congregational Church (for 300 years!) Architecturally, the masjid has undergone some changes, as the altar was converted into a mehrab and the cross on the building’s spire has been replaced with a crescent. However, the generous, faith-based spirit of the building has remained constant, as the 1,000 Muslim families now worshipping here have carried on the church’s food pantry and soup kitchen projects.
