Evidence from Poland and Lithuania shows that migrants from Central Asia are already helping to address critical labour shortages in sectors such as transport, construction, manufacturing, and logistics.

To make migration work better for everyone, we need to:
• Expand labour pathways that respond to real market needs
• Ensure pathways are accessible, timely, and predictable
• Reduce dependency on single employers to strengthen protection for workers
• Promote fair and ethical recruitment practices
• Combine migration pathways with early integration support

Regular pathways are a key part of well-managed migration systems that protect people while supporting economic growth and labour market needs.

Central Asian migrants are helping address labour shortages in Poland.

Many are employed in sectors facing acute workforce gaps, including transport, construction, manufacturing, food processing, warehousing, and administrative services.

By 2025, nearly 24,000 Central Asian nationals were legally residing in Poland.

This highlights the growing role of regular, employer-sponsored pathways in supporting labour markets and economic needs.

The World Migration Report 2026 has been published in the context of the International Migration Review Forum.

The report provides an overview of global migration trends in a time of increasing disruption — including conflicts, climate change, economic pressures and the spread of misinformation. It highlights both the scale of displacement worldwide and the continued role of migration in supporting labour markets, development and resilience.

In the European context, Poland emerges as a country of growing strategic importance. It is among the largest hosts of refugees in Europe, together with Germany, particularly in response to the war in Ukraine, while also experiencing increasing immigration linked to labour demand. Overall, the report underscores Poland’s increasingly multifaceted role in migration — as a country of destination, origin and key actor in Europe’s migration landscape.

Światowy Raport o Migracjach 2026 (World Migration Report 2026) został opublikowany podczas Międzynarodowego Forum Przeglądu Migracji.

Publikacja przedstawia przegląd globalnych trendów migracyjnych w czasie narastających wyzwań, takich jak konflikty zbrojne, zmiany klimatu, presja gospodarcza czy rosnące zjawisko dezinformacji. Zwraca uwagę zarówno na skalę przymusowych przesiedleń na świecie, jak i na niezmiennie ważną rolę migracji w wspieraniu rynków pracy, rozwoju oraz budowaniu odporności społecznej i instytucjonalnej.

W ujęciu europejskim Polska staje się krajem o coraz większym znaczeniu strategicznym. Należy do państw, które przyjęły największą liczbę uchodźców w Europie — obok Niemiec — przede wszystkim w związku z wojną w Ukrainie, jednocześnie doświadczając rosnącej imigracji wynikającej z potrzeb rynku pracy. Raport podkreśla tym samym coraz bardziej wielowymiarową rolę Polski w obszarze migracji — jako kraju docelowego, kraju pochodzenia oraz kraju o rosnącym znaczeniu w europejskiej polityce migracyjnej.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Poland invites qualified non-profit organizations to submit project proposals for interventions aimed at providing comprehensive rehabilitation, assistive devices, counselling services, and helpline support for refugees from Ukraine with disabilities—including children, adults, older persons, and their caregivers—across Poland.

The intervention focuses on improving access to essential health and disability-related services, strengthening independence and social inclusion, and addressing systemic barriers through coordinated, nationwide support mechanisms.
