In 1950, Hans Wegner reportedly wove the cord of his Flag Halyard Chair by hand, on a beach in Aarhus during a family holiday. A recliner made from steel and rope that became one of the most iconic pieces in design history.
Seventy years later, Dögg & Arnved Design Studio came back to that gesture. is an Icelandic designer whose work is rooted in Nordic material culture, combining traditional craftsmanship with industrial production, always with nature and tactility at the center. Together with architect Rikke Rützou Arnved, their approach stays true to Scandinavian tradition while pushing it somewhere new.
The result is Fifty. 350 metres of hand-woven cord on a minimal steel frame, with woven “ears” flanking the headrest that create a quiet sense of enclosure. Designed for indoors and outdoors alike.
The traditional warmth of the hand-woven cord. The precision of a black steel structure. Two things that shouldn’t belong together, and yet, they do.
