What colour do you see?

Ways of Seeing, a spatial play on colour perception, came to a close after nine days at Piet Hein Eek, Eindhoven, during 2026. Nine days of exploring colour, and of learning how differently it is seen by so many different people. Thank you to everyone who was part of it, from our partners to everyone who stepped inside.

Ways of Seeing begins with a staircase.

Before you reach the fabric, you climb Cooloo’s entrance: the social stairs that bring you up to the installation, and the furniture waiting inside. Old materials, recycled coatings, coloured using the NCS system.

Cooloo works with what already exists. Floors cast from glass and concrete waste. Furniture sprayed with a layer of recycled cork or textile. Planters refurbished with used clay pebbles. Their Endless Life® technology turns local waste streams into something new, and then makes it last.

Ways of Seeing is on view until 25 October at Piet Hein Eek, Eindhoven.

Selected from the NCS Colour Space, the palette of Ways of Seeing runs from warm to cool, with pinks where the two meet. It was never meant to stay on a page. At Dutch Design Week, the colours run through the entire installation: the fabric, the furniture, the stairs.

Swipe to see the twelve colours, and where they sit in the NCS colour circle and triangle. Explore the full palette as a collection in NCS+ and add the colours to your own mood board.

Walk through Ways of Seeing and the colours never quite settle. That is exactly how Rive Roshan designed it, with every step changing what you see.

Rive Roshan on the thinking behind it:

“We wanted to capture how our understanding of an environment continuously evolves as we move through it. By using moving layers of sheer fabric, the installation creates a mesmerising optical effect where solid forms seem to dissolve and hues blend organically in mid-air.”

On view 17–25 October at Piet Hein Eek, Eindhoven.

Other Degree is a studio for spatial intelligence, founded by psychologist Florijn Vriend and architect Benine Dekker. Working at the intersection of psychology and architecture, they start with people, with how they move through a space and how it makes them feel.

For our collaboration on Ways of Seeing at Dutch Design Week | DDW, they developed the concept and curated the installation. They shaped the idea and the story behind it, along with the journey visitors take through the space, with one aim: a place to take a breath and see for yourself. Their thinking begins with a simple question.

“The question is no longer how to find more, but how to choose. How do we curate for ourselves, and can we still trust our own senses to know what works for us?”

How much is there to see when we take the time to look?

A transformative spatial installation that plays with your perception of colour. Ways of Seeing invites visitors to move through a layered colour space of translucent fabric, where material and light shift with every step and colour is experienced anew.

Presented by NCS Colour, with concept and curation by Other Degree, creative direction and installation design by Rive Roshan, circular design by Cooloo and textiles by Big Impact, in collaboration with Broeinest .

Saw a colour you love in a photo? Now you can name it.

With Image extract in NCS+ Pro, you can take or upload an image, pick a point and get the closest NCS notation.

Here we tried it on INR bathroom from their “Outside the white box” collection. A blue cabinet, a fire-red towel rail and a terracotta floor.

Save your colours, add them to your boards and discover the best suggested combinations.

Image extract is available for all NCS+ Pro members on mobile and desktop. Link in bio.

[Extracted colours are based on the image, so light, exposure and filters can affect the result. Always make an assessment with physical colour samples or a Colourpin.]
