More than just colours.

The experience of colour is shaped as much by material as by the colour itself. Wood, textiles and lacquered finishes can carry just as much colour as painted surfaces, while adding layers of nuance and texture. As a result, the same colour can appear differently depending on the choice of material. When colour and material work together, they create interiors with a richer and more vibrant expression.

When hard and soft materials come together, they create more than just contrast.

Materials influence more than how a space looks – they also shape how it feels, sounds and functions. Metal, stone and glass can create a clean and defined aesthetic, while upholstered furniture and wood add warmth, comfort and a softer acoustic environment. It’s in the balance between materials that the character of a space is shaped.

Designing for digital balance.

In environments where screens are a natural part of everyday life, colour becomes even more important. Neutral and muted tones can provide visual relief by reducing competition with screen light and creating a calmer overall experience. Green hues often evoke a connection to nature and can support restoration, while shades of blue encourage calm and relaxation. Combined with wood, the expression becomes softer and more balanced.

Long-lasting products start with thoughtful materials.

When choosing materials, several factors need to be balanced – from quality, function and design to the ability to update a product over time. A large share of the climate impact occurs during material production, making long service life an important consideration.

Longevity is also shaped by construction. Our layer-by-layer design makes it possible to repair, reupholster or replace parts that wear out or lose their function as needs change. Rounded edges are another example of durable design, reducing wear and contributing to greater resilience in everyday use.

The temperature of colour shapes both mood and atmosphere.

Colour is about more than what we see – it’s also about what we feel. Warm tones such as red, orange and yellow can bring energy and vibrancy to a space, while cooler shades of blue, green and purple create a calmer and more restorative atmosphere. When warm and cool colours are combined thoughtfully, they create a natural sense of balance within the space.

A material with many expressions – and timeless appeal.

Few materials bring the same sense of warmth and character as wood. From light ash and birch to robust oak, different species and finishes can transform the expression of a space. Even when stained, the natural grain remains visible, adding depth to the material.

Wood is also a sustainable choice, often offering a lower carbon footprint than metal and plastic. Over time, it can be refreshed through sanding or refinishing, helping to extend its lifespan.

One colour in many layers.

Exploring a colour through multiple shades is an effective way to create a harmonious whole with a sophisticated feel. Soft transitions between lighter and darker tones bring a sense of calm, while adding character and depth to the space. Combined with different materials and textures, colour gains even more dimension – creating interiors that feel rich, layered and inviting.
