/ Every slab at Woodslab is a blindbox. Not because we leave things to chance but because no one knows what is inside a log until it is cut open.

What we can control are the logs we choose.

Most slab shops source by species and volume. We source log by log. It takes experience to read a log from the outside: the grain forming beneath the bark, the density, the character. Most get passed over. A few make the cut.

Only after slabbing do we decide what each piece becomes: a single slab, a bookmatched pair, a multi-slab set or even an epoxy creation.

This is why some species are harder to come by. And when we say a slab is one of one, we mean it.

/ Tables between 1.6m and 1.8m seat 4-6pax comfortably. The right size for most HDB dining rooms and the sweet spot for everyday family use without the table overwhelming the space.

/ Raintree (single) 181cm

Raintree in its natural form. No stain, nothing added. Warm, dramatic grain exactly as it came. For those who want the full character of the species without any intervention.

/ Raintree (single, stained) 182cm

Our most requested species, in its most requested finish. The stain deepens the natural tonal contrast of the grain perfectly. A customer favourite for good reason.

/ American Black Walnut (multi) 180cm

Our benchmark species at the perfect entry size. Deep chocolate brown, clean grain, three boards jointed into one surface.

/ Tables between 1.8m and 2.2m seat 6-8pax comfortably. Enough room for regular gatherings without committing to something that only makes sense when you have a full house.

/ American Black Walnut (multi) 220cm

Singapore’s favourite solid wood species at a scale that comfortably seats 8. Multi-slab construction, consistent grain across the surface, the kind of piece that anchors a dining room rather than sitting in it.

/ French White Oak (single, stained black) 190cm

French White Oak stained black is one of the more striking combinations in this edit. The grain remains visible beneath the finish, giving the surface depth rather than a flat colour. For interiors that lean dark, considered and deliberate.

/ Japanese Zelkova + Epoxy 195cm

Japanese Zelkova is warm, golden and subtly figured. The crystal clear epoxy showcases the wood’s dramatic catheral grains perfectly at a size that seats 6 to 8 with ease.

/ GRAINS 030: From raw slab to finished piece.

We stand behind every slab that leaves our studio. When people walk into the showroom and find themselves wondering why our slabs look so different from everything else they have seen, this is the foundational reason.

The process; Every single slab, the same steps, the same experienced hands, without exception.

We are sharing this because transparency is not just about naming species correctly. It is about showing you exactly what goes into the piece before it arrives in your home.

/ Moisture check

Before anything else, we check moisture. The level across the slab determines how the wood will move. Uneven moisture means uneven expansion and contraction. That is what causes splits.

/ Hand planing

Flattening starts by hand. Before any machine touches the slab, the artisan works it manually to remove as little material as possible. The skill required to do this well takes years to develop. That is why this step cannot be rushed or outsourced to a machine.

/ Flattening

Once one side is flat, the wide belt sander takes reference from it to level the other. Both sides parallel. Both sides flat.

The machine doing this was built specifically for us. There are fewer than three in the world. That is not incidental. It is the standard we hold our slabs to.

/ Live edge cleaning

No machine can work a live edge. Every curve, every irregular form is handled by hand, on every single slab that passes through our studio. The time and precision it takes is exactly why our live edge slabs look the way they do. There is no shortcut that produces the same result.

/ Filling gaps

Cracks on the surface get filled. Cracks on the sides stay. We only touch what affects how you use the table.

How we fill depends on the slab. Epoxy for a seamless finish. Bowtie inlays, chiselled by hand, a traditional woodworking technique now favoured by those who value visible craftsmanship. And our latest addition: smelted tin, poured directly into the crack. Each method is a decision, not a default.

/ Golden persimmon, single slab
If you’re veering towards rustic or wabi-sabi, this might be the wood for you. We only have one of these in the showroom.

/ American black walnut, single slab
One of the most requested species and configurations we carry, prized for its deep, even colour and fine grain.
A few single slab pieces left in the showroom.

/ Raintree with our signature Crystal Epoxy
Our signature epoxy pour used here to highlight the natural voids. If you’re looking for an understated showstopper, this might just be the piece for you.

/ Japanese zelkova, single slab
Known for its dynamic cathedral grains, this particular slab is wider than most zelkova pieces we bring in as well.

/ Bubinga, single slab, 1 of 1
Difficult to acquire in this size. The grain and the scalloped live edge made this one a favourite with the team.
Once it’s gone, it will be awhile before we have another.

/ Italian olive with our signature Crystal Epoxy.
If you want a classic Woodslab epoxy piece, this is it.

/ French white oak, single slab
Chemically treated to bring out a darker tone than French white oak naturally has, a Woodslab technique rather than how the species usually looks.

/ Mappa burl, single slab
Usually paired with epoxy but this slab is wide enough to stand on its own, with the dynamic grain and chatoyance mappa burl is known for.

/ Purpleheart, single slab, 1 of 1
We’ve had a lot of requests for this one, so we pulled it from the archive.
Once it’s taken, it’s gone for good.

/ Raintree, stained, single slab
Raintree is one of the more abundant species we work with. This is one of our best examples of what it looks like pushed past its natural colour and texture.
