Unveiling Savoy 2 at ION Orchard.
-
An incredible night celebrating the next chapter of the Savoy Collection at the Royal Selangor showroom in ION Orchard. The energy, support, and enthusiasm were unforgettable — and a huge thank you to Royal Selangor for their generosity in giving away so many Savoy pieces to lucky guests. It was truly special to share this moment with everyone.
A sincere thank you to Chen Tien Yue for opening the event and for championing the craft and vision behind this collection.
Savoy 2 continues the series’ dialogue between Art Deco geometry and contemporary refinement — tactile pewter ribs, architectural lines, and the precision of Royal Selangor craftsmanship shaping a modern, sculptural identity.

A relic from the future.
-
Tactile pewter ribs, a precise ceramic face, and Royal Selangor craftsmanship. Savoy channels Art Deco through a sci-fi lens — refined, elegant, and timeless in both directions. A quiet nod to the science fiction movies that have inspired me throughout my career.

Featured in the Lian he zao bao newspaper, Singapore.
A collection I designed in 2019 but was hugely delayed by Covid. Scroll down to see a lot more images of the collection.
It’s currently on display as part of the Singapore Furniture Council’s Urban Living Showcase. Thanks to Fang Wei for the write up!

Something strange happened this morning. I was reading an article about a hacking of “the iconic” - an online fashion retailer in Australia. And the picture they chose for the story was this girl sitting on my Koi chair wearing a rainbow dress. After some searching around I found out that the dress is from an Australian brand called Dazie the label and is sold on The Iconic web store. This particular chair is very special. I only made two custom-purple koi chairs for the very iconic(!) New Majestic hotel in Singapore. But this hotel closed down in 2017. But the owner of New Majestic, Loh Lik Peng’s unlisted-collection company does own the old Clare hotel in Sydney. Maybe they got sent there. I really wonder where those two chairs are now and how Dazie ended up using one for a fashion shoot. So intriguing!

Hand carved textures I’m working on
Loving this texture! Trying it out on some new prototypes Hand-carved into thermally modified American red oak. Thermal modification is a heating process that changes the properties of the wood making it more durable. Also it gives the normally pale timber a deep chocolate colour that goes all the way through, allowing the texture to be carved in.
-
Solid American Red Oak combined with a removable upholstered cushion. The entire range is still being developed and will be released soon. Stay tuned.

The Sun Lounge
A prototype chair inspired by the iconic peacock chairs and developed for the FIND exhibition in Singapore. Constructed of thermally modified red oak, giving it improved durability and the rich chocolate colour of the timber.

Originally, I planned to create a solid chair without slats but it just didn’t look right. It looked extremely top-heavy and the intersection of the backrest and the base, aesthetically, didn’t work. By adding the slats and working with the grain of the wood I was able to ensure the lines of the backrest progress down through the seat, right to the base. The slat widths, the angles of the seat-boards and the gaps in between were very carefully thought-through to make sure that everything looked balanced. It’s a very simple looking chair but it took a lot of refinement to make it appear that way.
