DNA evidence just helped convict illegal loggers in the US Pacific Northwest 11/03/2016

A DNA profiling reference database of bigleaf maple was developed and used in this case, the only database of its kind that has been validated for use in court proceedings.

Read more about how we used the database to match seized bigleaf maple wood blocks to stumps from suspected theft sites using DNA profiling, which was developed in collaboration with World Resources Institute and The University of Adelaide.

This also marks the first time the US government has prosecuted a Lacey Act case for illegal interstate trade of wood products within the US - a win for forests both domestic and international.
