【World’s Largest Combined Rectangular Pipe Jacking Machine Breaks Through】

On August 22, 2023, the world's largest combined rectangular pipe jacking machine CREC 1179, developed and manufactured by China Railway Engineering Equipment Group, Co. Ltd. (CREG), successfully broke through the left line for the Shasan Station of Shenzhen Metro Line 12 project.

Shasan Station is a two-story underground island station and has the total length of 208.4m, among which 70m section is excavated by CREC 1179. Its cross section upon completion is 22.6m wide and 13.5m high, accounting for about three fourths of a standard basketball court. To overcome complex geological conditions such as rich underground water and “upper soft and lower hard” stratum, CREG has customized the super-large cross-section rectangular pipe jacking machine CREC 1179 with the width of 11.29m and height of 13.55m, which is equal to the height of four-story building. CREC 1179 is composed of upper and lower equipment, designed with multiple cutter heads cooperated by multiple screw conveyors and adopts the micro-benching tunnelling technique and the attitude measurement and control system to realize the excavation with shallow overburden, large cross-section and zero gap, which could guarantee the safe, high-quality and efficient construction.

During the excavation, CREC 1179 worked stably with controllable attitude and didn’t cause obvious ground settlement, achieving a good desire result. Shasan Station on Shenzhen Metro Line 12 is the China’s first project that uses a super-large cross-section rectangular pipe jacking machine, which realizes a major innovation of underground subway construction methods.

【The Largest Dual-mode ”Yong-an” TBM successful assembly in Guangdong】

On Aug 8th, another largest diameter Dual mode EPB TBM developed by CREG successfully launched in Guifeng Tunnel.

The CREG “Yong-an” TBM excavation diameter is 14.29 meters, with a total length of 117 meters and a total weight of about 4250 tons. It is strictly carried out in a compatible and challenging working environment such as complex terrain, connecting multiple risk sources such as soft soil and hard rock sections. Undertake the construction of 3963.5 meters of shield section in Guifeng Tunnel, in the reason of dual mode shield machine, which can be quickly converted, to be efficient and safe.

According to reports, after the project is completed, it will reach all major cities along the Pearl River Delta within one hour. Also, it could be expected that it will bring high quality development of urban agglomeration on the Pearl River Delta side, to realize the seamless connection of Zhuhai-Zhaoqing High Speed Railway and Pearl River Delta Airport hub. The completion of the project will add convenience and efficiency to the urban area.

【The Successful of Cross Passage TBM Breakthrough in Guangzhou Metro Line 12】

Congratulations to CREG cross passage tunnel boring machine break through on Guangzhou Metro Line 12. This is the first time it has been used in Guangzhou. The mechanically innovative cross passage TBM invented by CREG has been successfully used in the subways of many cities in China.

On July 24, the Guangzhou Metro Line 12 (Chisha Station-Lentou Station), has a total length of excavation 29.7 meters and the buried depth is about 13.4 meters. During the excavation, the equipment passed through the hard rock section, marking the successful application of the contact channel shield method in a composite stratum in Guangzhou.

In the successful of Guangzhou Metro Line 12, CREG has gained more experience and recognition from the construction site, which is of great significance to the promotion and the development of the latter market in Guangzhou.

【Dual Mode TBM Ready for Fortezza-Ponte Gardena Railway Section

On July 19, 2023, the 9.68m dual mode TBM, designed and manufactured by China Railway Engineering Equipment Group Co., Ltd. (CREG) for the Fortezza-Ponte Gardena railway section extending from Brenner Base Tunnel, passed its factory acceptance test in Zhengzhou.
The high-speed railway section is designed with twin single-track tubes. The TBM will excavate 16.13km in total (including left and right lines) with the minimum curve radius of 280m and maximum overburden of 600m. The geology is mainly composed of porphyry and phyllite with the uniaxial compressive strength of 40-80MPa.
In order to better overcome the geology and guarantee a safer and efficient tunnelling, the 2000t TBM is equipped with a series of advanced design and technologies:
1) quick mode conversion technology, which will save the time and labor for mode conversion between EPB mode and open mode;
2) green TBM design, which will enable the TBM to automatically adjust the tunnelling parameters and equipment start/stop states according to the tunnelling condition so as to reduce energy consumption;
3) main drive lifting technology, which will realize long distance overcutting in convergence strata to prevent jamming the TBM.
Upon completion of the project, the new railway line will significantly reduce the travel time for trains carrying people and goods and contribute to improving sustainable mobility in Italy.

【CREG EPB TBM for Turkey Halkali-Ispartakule High-speed Railway Project Launches】

On July 11, 2023, the Φ8.54m EPB TBM “CREC 1148” designed and manufactured by China Railway Engineering Equipment Group Co. Ltd. (CREG) began to bore, which marks the shield section of Halkali-Ispartakule high-speed railway project in Turkey is officially started.

The shield section includes left and right tunnelling sections in this project. The tunnelling length for each TBM is about 6km and the maximum buried depth is 55m. The geology mainly consists of clay, silt, sandstone, conglomerate, claystone and marlstone and the shield machine will go through Küçükçekmece lake and proposed Istanbul canal.

Targeted on the large buried depth and high-pressure water conditions, CREG has customized two EPB TBMs (“CREC 1148” and “CREC 1149”) with the same diameter. Driven by electricity, the two TBMs have the total lengths of 135m and maximum thrust speeds of 80mm/min. The whole machine can meet the requirements of Conformité Européenne (CE) certification, which is more reliable and safer. In addition, CREG has designed a double screw conveyor system and carried out strata reinforcement to overcome the high water pressure.

Meanwhile, the “CREC 1149” is being assembled and will be launched in September 2023. Upon completion of the Halkali-Ispartakule high-speed railway project, it will be beneficial to ease the pressure on local transport, improve the level of local passenger and freight transport and promote exchanges between the two places.

【Regional Record】On 19 June, an Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) TBM “CREG no.1195” developed by CREG started the excavation journey of itself in the J7 Shaft of Xiamen Electric Power project, also known as longest cross-sea tunnel project on the national record. About 7.02m of excavation diameter, CREG no.1195 will face a total length of 3078m of cross-sea multiples area such as, the equipment will pass through unfavorable strata such as boulders, bedrock uplift, full-section sand layers, and shallow overburden, etc., which requires extremely high equipment performance.

In the view of narrow space of the geological conditions, CREG successfully resolved and launched a more than 100m shield machine in the 30m long working condition by using a separate method based on its construction, to increase the efficiency of excavation.

The completion of project is expected and provides greater electricity and water supply to satisfy the rapid and vigorous development of Xiamen City, it is a great significance of the people's livelihood.
