Standing with Women and Families Affected by the Euphrates Floods

Overnight, rising waters from the River swept into the home of Nashmiya and her 5 children in eastern Syria, forcing them to flee with nothing but their lives.

"We left everything behind—even the Eid clothes my children had been waiting to wear," she says.

As floods continue to affect communities across & , UNFPA and its partners have deployed mobile teams to deliver lifesaving reproductive health care, protection services, and psychosocial support to affected women, girls, and families.

Hygiene kits are also being distributed to help maintain health & dignity in these difficult conditions.

بين ليلة و ضحاها، تحولت فرحة العيد إلى كابوس لعائلة نشمية التي تعيش على ضفاف نهر الفرات في ريف #الميادين شرقي سوريا، بعدما اجتاحت مياه النهر منزلهم و هم نيام.

تقول نشمية، أم لخمسة أطفال: "تركنا كل شيء وراءنا، بما في ذلك ثياب العيد التي كان أطفالي ينتظرون ارتداءها. نجونا بأنفسنا و أطفالنا فقط. لحسن الحظ أن زوجي يملك قارب صيد و نقلنا إلى مكان آمن."

اليوم، تعيش الأسرة في غرفة مهجورة وسط الحقول، بانتظار انحسار المياه و العودة إلى منزلها.

و في ظل هذه الظروف الصعبة، أرسل صندوق الأمم المتحدة للسكان و شركائه العيادات المتنقلة إلى المناطق المتضررة في دير الزور والرقة لتقديم خدمات الصحة الإنجابية و الحماية و الدعم النفسي_ الاجتماعي. كما تم توزيع حقائب النظافة الشخصية للنساء و الفتيات.

The recent flooding along the River has damaged homes, farmland, and orchards across and .

For many families, the floods destroyed crops they had waited years to harvest after prolonged drought, deepening existing vulnerabilities and humanitarian needs.

Behind every flooded field is a family worried about how they will recover and provide for their children.

At nearly 4 a.m., floodwaters from the River rushed into Wadha's home in .

Pregnant and caring for three children, she watched as her family fled their home in the darkness to escape the rising waters.

Across Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa, hundreds of families have faced similar terrifying moments as floods swept through communities overnight.

"استيقظنا على صوت المياه و هي تقتحم غرفتنا"... فيضان الفرات يغيّر حياة عائلات بين ليلة و ضحاها

كانت الساعة تقترب من الرابعة فجراً عندما تسللت مياه فيضان نهر الفرات إلى منزل السيدة وضحة و أطفالها الثلاثة في قرية حويجة كدور بريف دير الزور."دخلت المياه فجأة بكميات كبيرة. و بدأت بالصراخ ليستيقظ زوجي و يُخرج الأطفال قبل فوات الأوان." تقول وضحة

خلال الأيام الماضية، عاش مئات السكان على امتداد ضفاف نهر الفرات في محافظتي دير الزور و الرقة مشاهد مشابهة، بعدما اجتاحت الفيضانات منازلهم و أراضيهم الزراعية، تاركة خلفها خسائر كبيرة و قلقاً متزايداً على مستقبل أسرهم و مصادر رزقهم.

و قد تضررت مساحات واسعة من البساتين و الحقول، فيما خسر العديد من المزارعين محاصيل كانوا ينتظرون حصادها بعد سنوات طويلة من الجفاف.

و استجابة للاحتياجات الإنسانية المتزايدة، أرسل صندوق الأمم المتحدة للسكان و شركاؤه عيادات متنقلة إلى المناطق المتضررة في دير الزور و الرقة لتقديم خدمات الصحة الإنجابية والحماية، و الوصول إلى النساء و الفتيات و الأسر المتضررة من الفيضانات.

الوصم الاجتماعي، و عدم المساواة، و الفقر، كلها عوامل تحول دون تمكّن ملايين النساء والفتيات من العناية بصحتهن أثناء بأمان و راحة و كرامة.

لا ينبغي حرمان أي امرأة من التعليم أو العمل أو الحياة اليومية في أي مكان أو زمان لمجرد أنها تحيض.
